Does anybody know if there is an aftermarket Magneto for the Spyder that produces more that 650 watts, and if it would do any harm to the Spyder's electrical system?
I knd of doubt if there is a bolt in replacement but as to would it hurt the electrical system.
No - if it was done properly and the Voltage Regulator was sized properly.
Ever thought about a Flux Capacitor?
:joke:
They have a 850 that can be put in. I have it and works just fine.if you have a good mech he will know the part number .i will look for number when I get home this week...
Instead of a bigger magneto How about more efficient electronics that don't drain the battery down when off?

Power(Watts) is equal to Voltage x Current. This also means Current = Watts/Voltage. Therefore 650 Watts/12 Volts = 54.16 Amps. 54 Amps, wow, that's alot of current. If you put in a 850 Watt Alternator then the Max Current jumps to 70.8 Amps. I would think, if you actually used all this current, you would burn the heck out of the wiring. Your household circuit breakers trip at 15Amps so 54 Amps is pretty huge and 70.8Amps is humungous. Usually the specs for that sort of thing are doubled so probably the VR would work, although I think you are more right about that then wrong.
That's based on a 100% efficiency. There is a lot of power lost to heat, friction and wire/winding resistance. My guess is you getting only about 60% max efficiency in the magneto. So 650w x .6 eff = 390w --- 390W/ 12v = 32.5A
