• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Headlights on the 2013 RSS

Did they put a new type of bulb in the 2013 RSS? I had one riding behind me recently and the lights are much more white and way brighter than my 2009 RS. The 2013 is completely stock, no mods. I may need to replace my bulbs

I know they are different but not sure what the differences are. If you look at the HID kt they sell for the older bikes it doesnt fir the 13. I have the HID kit on my 2011RSS and they are really bright. I am hoping the 2013 RSS ones are as good. I pick up my new one this weekend so i'll let you know

They won't be as good as the HIDs. They are listed as halogen bulbs, just like the earlier ones, but probably a fifferent configuration and perhaps a different wattage. Same as the RT bulbs now, perhaps? I didn't look that up.

What different bulb?

I just looked up the headlight bulbs for the 2009 GS, 2012 RS and 2013 RS north american models. They all take the same bulb. BRP part # 21400069.

Ok. Thanks for looking that up. Is there an aftermarket bulb you can use that will work that anybody knows of?

If all those model years and models use the same bulb part number, like the other poster said.................the bulbs are H7s; I just swapped mine out on my '12 RSS. So, any H7 should work for you, pick a color (on the Kelvin scale) you like (the whiter the better generally; HIDs are about 6000K, though they're good for several reasons other than just color temp) and run with it. Sylvania Silverstars and the like are readily available at most auto parts places, and I've used, and been pleased with them in the past. The last several sets of upgrade bulbs I've bought have been from: buyheadlightbulbs.com. I've got Luminics Ti White bulbs (5500K) in my car, and Luminics Ultra White (5150K) in the Spyder................they're the same wattage as stock, so they don't over draw the electrical systems, and they're no hotter (color temp just refers to the lights color NOT it's actual temperature in Farenheit) than stock, and my light output, coverage, and visibility is noticeably improved at night. Good luck! BTW: BHB.com has a whole bunch of other brands of bulbs for sale other than Luminics.

Awesome info. Thank you so much for the help. Was it hard to get to the bulbs to change them?

There are five small slots (two on each side and one in the center directly between and underneath the headlights) in the headlight/instrument pod cowling; that you're "supposed" to be able to slip a small screwdriver into to release the tabs on the inside of the cowling. I tried twice, and gave up on that method, as it's real easy to gouge or bend up the cowling plastic surrounding the small slots, and though I was pressing in, on what ever my screwdriver was making contact with, hard enough to kill a small dog...........................nothing was releasing. Spyd1 put me up on a different technique of accessing the headlights (the same used to install factory accessory fog lights), and e mailed me some very nice written instructions with clear pics of that disassembly process. It's more involved than the "press the tabs, and release the cowling catches" method, that didn't work. The second method wasn't that difficult mechanically; except for the two hex head bolts attaching the cowling frame to the Spyder's frame directly underneath the headlights. Those two were the 'devils own" to get out and back in for me; due to the mechanical and electrical obstructions around them. If your like, PM me with your e mail and I'll give you the instructions (about 6 pages) Spyd1 gave me. BTW: On my '12 RSS the headlight bulb type is cast into the plastic ring surrounding the headlight lenses; mine are Hellas, and that's how I verified the bulbs are H7s.
