• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Oil smell!!!!

The last two days I've been smelling oil like a drip that hits the exhaust pipe on the right-side. A friend riding with me at times can see a puff of smoke coming fro the bike. Took it to dealer and they can't find a problem.

Anyone have an idea?

Blow-by oil in the airbox...dripping or being blown onto the exhaust header. Inspect and clean the airbox (inside) and everything the is oily below and behind it. Make sure your oil is properly checked and not overfilled.

Scotty,
It's trying to stuff too much oil into the tank, that causes it to end up in the airbox; right? :dontknow:
Thanks!

Not completely. It does compound the problem, for some reason. All V-twins form pulses in the crankcase, which can push oil through the vents. Without some type of barometric loop or filter/trap in the vent line, excess oil can get pushed to the intake....where the oil fumes and mist are supposed to go. Spyders are better now than they used to be, and the RT's were always better than the early GS, but most will blow some oil to the airbox if overfilled. I suspect it is because the high level either hinders the oil return, or holds slightly more head pressure against the scavenger pump, so crankcase evacuation is slightly less efficient and the addtional oil escapes through the vent at a higher rate. That's just a guess on my part, though. Actual engine blow-by would be another possibility, but a surprise in a modern engine. The Spyder could be the exception to the rule...the higher than expected rate of oil usage has to have a cause.

If you drive at high RPM 10% of the time higher than 6000 RPM Some oil in the air box is normal..
But over filling' even by a little will end up dripping out of the bottom right side of the air box..

Gotta say..!!

oil in the cases of a burned out clutch are none to sweet plus you know what it means...!! :yikes:

The oil is hitting on the right side around where the the pipe connects with the cat. I did find some lose bolts around the clutch housing.
