• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

question on starting the new spyder 2014 rss it start up ok but when it turns over it is little slow on cranking over it is fully charge, is this common on the spyder I would think it would spin up a lot faster, maybe it is to cold outside it is 16 degrees this morning:opps::opps:
 
I wouldn't assume that the dealer gave the battery all of the electrons that it could absorb... Try hooking it up to a charger for a day. :2thumbs:
But 16 degrees will test ANY battery... :shocked:
 
I've noticed mine is a bit slower than my '11 was and its fully charged and in moderately warm shed. I'm assuming thats just the way these sound.

Also, mine needs to be warmed up enough to drop down to its normal 900 rpm or its likely to stall when put in gear.
 
It's got a little bit more to spin over...
How many miles do you have on it so far?

Just guessing here buuuuuuuuuuut....BRP stopped using FULL SYNTHETIC oil and at the temp mentioned the Battery is going to be a bit strained turning over THREE pistons now ...IMHO.........stick with full Syn from BAJA Ron.......Mike :thumbup:

I don't know if this is your first BRP Machine or not, but while this is my first Spyder, I had a 2004 DS650 (Single Cylinder) Bombardier. My 2014 RT-S cranks slow, just the same as my DS650 did. In fact, when cranking the motor, they sound exactly the same. I wouldn't say there is an issue. I believe this is just their nature. I put a battery tender on my RT-S, but it almost immediately went green, stating that the battery was fully charged; so the battery has a good charge, and the RT was just built on 1/23/2014. I've never had an issue with either machine starting. Also, I'm in fairly warm weather; usually starting up the beast in 70-80 degree weather. Get a battery tender and check it out if you want, but I wouldn't worry about it. If you had a 2+ year old battery, I would definitely say get it checked out to verify the battery is good.

First I've heard about the oil; had assumed that since these early '14's were/are winter built, they'd have the synthetic, reputed to be a 5W-40, as opposed to the blend, reputed to be 10W-40. Doesn't bother me tho, because I'll be changing mine soon with a 10-40 blend to begin with.

The BRP full syn is not specifically recommended by BRP for the Spyder. They sell the winter and summer weight for their other machines, but they specify the blend for all seasons for the Spyders...although a labeled 5W-40 full synthetic motorcycle oil not having the API-SM rating is a listed alternative and 10W-40 full syn is used by many owners with no problem. Spyders are delivered with the blend oil all year long, as far as I know

BRP synthetic is 0-40 and blended is 5-40.
 
Is it possibly a special custom blend they use to help with the break-in process? It is, after all, only supposed to be in the engine for 600 miles.

BRP does not use a break-in oil, unlike some other manufacturers. I do belive theyy purposely use the blend when new since 2009, however, to assist in the break-in process. Full synthetic can be too slippery during break-in.
 
:agree: Full-Synthetics in a new engine won't allow it to break-in... The rings just can't get enough grab on the cylinder walls to perform their magic... :shocked:
Use the blend for a while; your engine will Thank You... :thumbup:
