• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear axle nut cover fell off - doesn't 'snap' on! Anyone lost one?

I was trailering my F3 back from a vacation in New Mexico. As I was unloading it at home, I saw something strange on the floor of the trailer.

I picked it up and scratched my head for a moment. Looking at the rear axle I found where it came from.

The cover for the left rear axle nut had fallen off. I stuck it back on, expecting it to 'snap' into place. No snap. Say what?

The thing just slides into place with nothing really holding it in? It's not even a tight fit and I'm surprised that it hasn't fallen off before this!

Terrible design by BRP!!!

Anyone lost their cover because of this?

I wrapped a couple of turns of electrical tape around the 'shaft' of the cover and jammed it back on.

I've never had the one on the right side of my RT since I bought it (used). Figured it was cosmetic. If I really should have one, for dirt or something, I'll buy one I guess.

Just put a Dab of RTV on the inside of the cover and put it back on. It won't fall off again, and it is easily removed. I have to do this with my lug nut covers in my RAM Dually.

I don't remember ever seeing any on my Spyder, but then, I also bought used. Anyway, my trailer hitch covers the ends of the axle, so they would have had to be removed anyway.
 
You don't really need it, I think they put it on there to keep some of the road grime off the threads! And as far as it snapping on, I find it's a friction fit over the cotter pin, there should be some resistance when you slip it on.
 
I have never had any problems with the rear covers on mine but my bike was used and did not come with the 2 for the fronts. The shop manual shows covers for these also so I bought them and installed. Dresses up the bike a little and now I don't have to look at the nut and cotter pin spinning as I go down the road. Anybody else missing these covers? I suspect mine never had these installed.

I did this on the front covers of my RT-S very early in my life with my Spyder after reading on SL of someone who lost a front wheel cover. They're both still on as I close on 90K miles.
 
One of mine fell off when I first got the Spyder. I pulled the other one off to see what was supposed to hold it on, and found that nothing does, so I threw it into the trash can. It would have just fallen off later. You can wrap electrical tape on the axle threads if you are worried about them.

Amazon has some fancy axle caps that have a set screw to hold them on if you want them to look purty. I just leave mine open.

The left cover on mine "disappeared" after it was serviced in June. Pleased that it doesn't seem to be important!
