Is the General Altimax RT45 a good Replacing rear tire for a 2017 Spyder RT Ltd?

In 2023, I replaced one of our Can Am Spyders stock rear tire with a General Tire Altimax RT43 Radial Tire - 215/60/R15 94T.
Love it. Wanted to order another one for my second Spyder. General doesn't make the above tire any more and has replaced
it with an upgrade - Altimax RT45 215/65R15 96T. I just want to make sure that the replacement General tire will still work for the
Spyder rear tire. My Spyder shop will not put on any other tire than that the goes with the Spyder. This one is less expensive, more durable, and lasts for 60K+ miles according to General. Any of you have any thoughts or experience with this?
Many thanks.

The 45 is a great tire. We sell and install a lot of these with very happy customers. But I would recommend sticking with the 215/60R15 version. You probably won't get near the 60k out of it. But it will go much further than the OEM tires.

If you are willing to take the rear wheel off, most tire shops will mount the tire for you. Dealerships can be difficult with non OEM tires. Some will, some won't.

I have an RT43 on the Champagne Spyder and an RT45 on the Asphalt Grey Spyder. Great tires. The 215/60R15 corrects the speedo a bit. The RT45 on the Asphalt Grey has the speedo at a little less than 1 mph off now. That is sometimes it reads the same as the GPS, and other times it's 1 mph off...

I have the 60R on mine and my spedo is within 1 MPH of my GPS. It appears that the 65R may be 3/4" taller and when my shock is totally compressed the 60R is about 1" from touching. It's too tight and close up under there to get an exact measurement. Maybe someone else on here has gotten a better measurement. My ride is a 14RTSE6. It should be darn close to a 17.

What pressure would you recommend running in the Altimax?

What pressure would you recommend running in the Altimax?

I'd suggest 18 psi, and that's probably the most frequently recommended pressure for non OEM Kendas or their clones, but there is a LOT of discussion about the ideal tire pressures for car tires fitted to Spyders on the Forum if you want to read up on the why's & wherefore's - just search (top right of the page) on 'tire pressure' with the 'Search titles only' box checked then read on... until you've read enough, or to your hearts content, whichever comes first! ;)

We had a customer come in complaining that he was only getting about 10k out of his Kumo rear tire. I thought that was odd and asked him what tire pressure he was running.

"50 PSI" he said. "That's what it states on the side of the tire".

Well, I'll give him that. But you can't always go by the stamped maximum tire pressure. The weight of the vehicle has more to do with proper tire pressure than anything else. We recommend 18-22 psi for a rear car tire on the Spyder. We have modified our recommendation over time based on owner experience and the wear patterns we see on tires than come in to us.

The OEM tires need more air pressure because the sidewalls are so weak. But then the tread area is also weak and the additional pressure tends to wear them out in the middle. There isn't enough weight to keep the entire width of the tread in contact with the road surface.

On the other hand, we just had a customer come in running about 7 lbs. psi in all 3 OEM Kenda's. Even with no one on the bike you could see visible squish in the sidewalls at the bottom.

Tire pressure is very important on any vehicle. But even more so on your Spyder. Please check them from time to time. Tires will lose air pressure. Check them cold. If you check them hot, you need to compensate for the additional pressure that heated, expanded air creates.
