• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

UPDATE ON MY HAND BRAKE MOD I have made a couple of changes in the hand brake. Normal foot brake action the slave cylinder shaft stays in the hole in the clevis. However, if the brakes on the Spyder had to be bled, to remove air, the foot brake arm would be moved far enough for the shaft to...

Easy way to fix trunk so that it 'springs' open...

And by me, in post #25: 3/4" OD 2-3/16" long (2" long is OK also), .062 wire diameter.

Easy way to fix trunk so that it 'springs' open...

I found it to be even easier using the method Sara (I think) used. No loosening of nuts or anything. Just get a spring big enough to slip over the nuts and smear a little silicone seal around that area to hold it when the stuff dries. If you close it, and leave it overnight, after applying the...

    SpyderLovers will be moving soon

Me thinks you are right. :agree: I do have my computer set up to get rid of cookies periodically, so that's probably it. Thanks, Frank

    Lamonster Hand Brake

I'm very happy with my adaptation of the NEXUS hydraulic hand brake system now. One thing I hadn't mentioned before was that I got so used to the "foot brake only" on my Spyder that I found myself beginning to not use the hand brake on my two TWTrike Yamaha dual-sport conversions. That bothered...

    My neighbors hate me now...

Lamonster, I'm sure glad you didn't have that exhaust when I was riding behind you up Mt Palomar! :(

    SpyderLovers will be moving soon

Now if I could just get my log-in to remember my user name and password. I can never get it to remember the name but it will remember the password for a week or so and then mysteriously drop it. :banghead: :dontknow: Good thing I have it on a Post-it note on my keyboard. :sour:

    Drive belt position???

Again - Great information! I'll keep checking this thread for awhile as it looks like more may be coming along. Thanks, Frank

    No Power Stearing

Yes, I find it troubling to have to hold a lot of bar pressure when I'm going around a long mountain curve at speed. I feel that if I sneeze the trike is going to go straight, because I'm having to force it so much to stay in the turn. So now I'm beginning to wonder if something is not right...

    Reset Brake Failure Warning Message??

Veeery innnnteresting! When I was doing the hand brake modification, that NEXUS devised, I of course read the Spyder shop manual :read: section about the braking system, before I started the project. I began to understand some of what has also been posted in this thread about how it all works...

    Drive belt position???

    Thanks for the info.

    No Power Stearing

My power steering seems to be OK at rest and slow speed. However, because it is "progressive" I do find I have a lot of bar pressure when riding the fast twisties, like Palomar Mountain. I was used to riding my dual-sport trikes which have essentially neutral steering (very little bar pressure...

    kill switch

On both of the dual-sport trikes (TWTrikes) I built, I mounted a "dead man" switch. I ordered them through a motorcycle dealer. They're available because they are required for racing ATV's. What I don't want to happen is to be thrown off of the trike and then have it continue running away from...

    Drive belt position???

Does anyone have the required (stated in the manual) 1mm minimum distance between the side of their drive belt and the flange on the rear cog? Ever since I got my Spyder my belt has been right up against the flange. When I rode with Lamonster, last August, I noticed that his belt was the same...

BRP refuses to pay dealer for warranty repair

:agree: Some people have posted that for safety they sit at a stop light holding the clutch in and are in first gear. They have said this is what they do in case a car is going to rear-end them and they can take evasive action. I always shift into neutral at a light. I can't see how leaping...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Doesn't that compromise the original redundancy by connecting both elements of the Spyder's dual master cylinder through his manifold?

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Actually, since I also ride two wheels I like stopping with the hand brake. If I didn't ride other motorcycles I probably wouldn't feel that way, but I get both with this system.

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

As I said before; if this added system fails to operate, you still have the original unaltered foot operated system to use. Even if the added system jammed the foot pedal and prevented it from returning to rest position you would still stop and with a functioning ABS, but if you didn't intend to...

Hydraulic Handbrake Alternative, And Alternative to Cables

Since the Spyder has a dual master cylinder I don't know if there exists a hand brake with dual cylinders. On two wheel motorcycles the requirement for a redundant braking system is satisfied by the hand brake for the front and the foot brake for the rear. Spyder has all three tied together so...
