There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2012 RS vs RS-S

I'm considering getting a 2012 Spyder and am wondering if the consensus is that the RS-S is worth the extra money? Do the FOX shocks make a noticeable difference? I almost prefer the flat black of the RS, but if I went with the RS-S it would likely be the magnesium/black. If I do go with the RS-S, what is a good price for an SM5? Dealers don't seem to be discounting these too much. Anything else I should know or consider before making the purchase? Thanks.

If 6 spoke and a stitched seat isn,t important to you- The only other thing your paying $1,599 Extra for is the Fox Shocks.
You can buy the Fox for $450 or the Elka,s for $650 (On sale) and put them on yourself!!!

If I were you I would look into a Left over 2011 Model for a cheaper price with a Semi-Auto Transmission because they are sweat for Accelerating!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the exact same thing when I bought mine, what is the extra $$$ that I would be paying for? Something else to think about too...think about the color. If you decide down the road that you want a wrap or something like that, your bike will be a 2-tone color. That is why I just went with the RS. This way, I can wrap it or detail it any way I want to down the road if I want. And the black is soooo nice all shined up. I have had so many compliments. I have never owned a black vehicle ever before until my new RS, and I am so glad I chose that color. I will add my OWN accessories that I choose for the price difference and I am sure I will be much happier in the end anyways. Hope this helps!

Louis Powersports?

I looked all over the internet and found that Louis Powersports in Greenville, TX to have some of the best prices I could find. Call (903) 454-4440 talk to Curtis he sells to all over the US either pick it up or he will ship. I saved about $3,000 on 2012 RT Limited. Give him a shot.

This discussion comes up often. This is from my past post.

Here's exactly what you're getting in an RS-S for the extra money over an RS in 2012:

  • Stitched seat cover (great looks improvement, even better have the dealer swap in the Comfort Seat as part of the deal, mine did for only an extra $250.)
  • Two tone coloration (Looks much better than the std paint job, IMHO)
  • Black six double-spoke front wheels (Major, major improvement in looks, these wheels look so much better than stock.)
  • Black rear wheel and sprocket (Major improvement in looks and expensive to add on afterward)
  • Painted front spoiler and A-arms (Nice touch)
  • Carbon black handle bar console and lower body parts (Great improvement in style, looks lean and mean.)
  • RS-S graphics (Nice touch)
  • Gas charged adjustable Fox front shock absorbers (Major performance improvement and a $450 option if added later.)

I went from thinking I was going to purchase a used SE5, to my hubby working out a deal for a new 2012 RS-S SE5. I also liked the RS in Black. I especially liked the copper, but it was hard to find a 2011 semi-auto... and the color choices were very limited. I am not sure if it will wash out in the end, but I sure like the Green machines they have out now, and I also like the fact that the Fox shocks are already taken care of because that will mean that my husband will have more time to work on other upgrades I am dreaming about  My new Spyder is being delivered tomorrow in a crate, and I am happy that my husband talked me into getting a new Spyder  I am kind of spoiled...

Yep, I went through the same thing a little bit ago. I decided I would rather have the all black RS with some extra cash and add some black farkles later....View attachment 44557

:welcome::spyder2:Lover . You went with the best choice from the start short off getting an RTS . The RSS SE5 has tons more upgrades that somewhere down the line you would have paid way more for , plus the awesome color combinations that are available .

posted this very question

I posted this very question on another forum (before I learned about this one) just a couple of weeks ago. My conclusion was "it depends", like you, the only thing in the RS-S package that I really wanted were the Fox shocks and for me that did not justify the difference. The seat stiching looks great, but with past motorcycle seats water got in through the stitching if I got caught in the rain. The spokes are nice, but I actually like the standard wheels, particularly since I have a black bike and they provide some contrast. The graphics are obviously personal taste. Short answer the RS-S is definately worth the extra if the options are what you would choose, but if not the extra $1000.00 (over the price of the shocks) can buy some very tasty accessories.
