• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2014 RT

I am test driving a 2014 RT Limited, and would like to here from other owners of these Spyders to get input on what you recommend for shifting RPMs both up and down. Also, what gear, RPMs at 60 mph. I have 160 miles of TEST RYDING so far, and I must say=== VERY IMPRESSED!!!! The ride of the new suspension is GREAT, along with superb handling. The new motor and trany I like a LOT, just some getting used to. Thanks for any input.

First, to second, to third; I'm slapping the paddle at only 2,000 rpm.
Fourth, fifth, and sixth: about 2,500 rpm or so...
I've been letting the bike handle about 95% of the dwnshifting chores; I've noticed that they REALLY improd the backshifting software...
RPMs at 60: just a half a tick over 3,000!

Ain't it great?? :D

Just for giggles try it in eco mode and up shift when the green arrow tells you to..... for downshifting I never do that manually unless I am pulling my trailer for regular riding the downshift sequence seems great...

I usually run it up to 3500 and the only time I downshift is when I'm engine breaking going into a corner. Other wise I just let the bike do the downshifting. I find eco mode shifting way to early, but the bike doesn't seem to mind running at low Rpm's.

Amazing

I am finding the 2014 to continue to amaze me. What Bob D wrote is pretty much how I shift.
far different from the 10 where I did 98% of the downshifting. The trailer on today have it half loaded, pretty sure it will be fully loaded when I pull out of Springfield. :yikes: Will give you my report on the 14 with a loaded trailer as I take off and do some touring the next couple weeks.
yep my purchase experience with Pitbull Powersports and Lamonster Garage was great and the '14 is amazing.
my White Knight has been moved to perfection with Reggy & Joe go TricLEDS lighting creation. My last purchase was the cherry on the almost perfect hot fudge sundae...Kempie installed the 2 Brothers...I had on my '10....love the sound, was missing it, but now I have. Vroooooom.

I go buy sound and speed. If It can maintain the speed I want, up shift. I have down shifted a few times, especially in sharp curves. But generally let the bike do it. Tom :trike:

2014 Shifting

I brought the 2014, after selling my 2013, they are to totally different bikes. I really love this bike. Now for shifting, the oil has to be good and hot for shifting. I use the Eco shifting arrows for shifting. I just put in a new tank of gas, I try and fill it the tank the same each time. I am now at the red empty line? I am at 202 mpg. This is in town riding and two 100 mile rides. 65 is the top speed I hit.

The only thing I am not sure of is tire pressure. The 2014 is a heavier bike, it recomends 20 psi front and 28 psi rear.

My report covers the first 600 miles--put on since I picked it up on Wednesday PM.

I am also shifting "Bob style." It seems weird at first, coming off the high revs on the 998.

I like how quiet the 2014 is, the effortless shift from one gear to the next, and the fact that there is plenty of power and torque after each shift. I am finding that at 45 + or so, the 6th gear is fine for cruising and pulling. At 68 mph, the tach is right around 3300 in 6th.

Have not tried the ECO system. I cannot see the green arrows with the tinted shield and the really small icon. I did notice an improvement in gas mileage from shifting at 2500-3000 (first tank--34 mpg) to "Bob style" (second and third tank--37 mpg).
