2015 F3 and RT Oil Quantities

I've read multiple threads on oil quantity and I'm still trying to figure out what is correct. My 2015 F3 Operators Manual shows 5.6L/5.9Qt oil and filter change. My 2015 RT Operators Manual shows 4.7L/5Qt oil and filter change.

Is there really this near quart difference between the two models given they are both 1330 engines? Are the numbers above correct? If not, what are the correct quantities for both models?

Just had the first service performed by the dealer at 2655 miles and service ticket listed 5 qts BRP oil on the parts list. 2016 F3-T. After riding and checking hot, the level on the dipstick was 2/3 way from add to full, so just right for now. On the 2015 RT that I have, I always use a gallon jug plus one US Qt. on oil changes with filter, and it puts the level at the same place. Same engine/SE6 tranny, so as other and the BRP new chart show, 5 Qts plus a little more if you are doing the 28,000 mile Hydraulic Control Model filter change (6-8 oz max) is all you need on a change. 5 Qts on a regular change gets you good and maybe add a few more ounces if you like to run on the high end of the stick.

Just did my new F3L SE6, 5 quarts plus maybe 4oz. to the max mark. Put in 5 quarts and check it after warmup.

If you compare the engine oil quantities in the 2015 RT and F3 manuals you will see that there is a difference in the two manuals. I attribute this to frankly :cusoor proofreading and editing on the part of the people who are supposed to do the job right at BRP. We're dealing with the same engine and there has in the past been an issue of too much oil recommended for an oil and filter change in the RTs. As a result, pg 125 of the 2015 RT owner's manual says 5qt while pg 99 of the 2015 F3 manual says 5.9 qt. The original 2014 RT manual, pg 125, said 5.6qt. There subsequently arose an issue of overfilling the 1330 engine that Steve from BRPCare addressed in a clarification thread in which he put out the quantities shown in the picture. The 5qt for an engine and filter change would bring the fill level to the Min mark on the dipstick in a properly warmed up engine, to which the owner was up to his own devices to add oil until the level reached wherever the owner wanted it. I do the same as Highwayman, fill with 5qt and add an additional 4oz that brings my dipstick level close to the Max line. YMMV.

Here's the thing....

They are all reference numbers. You should not measure your oil as to those numbers and pour it in. You should always add up to a quart less then follow the oil measuring proceedure and add as needed. Your dip stick is the true measure of amount needed...:lecturef_smilie:
