• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A thread on this board got me to thinking

I wonder if anyone has statistics by brand of the percent of riders who are female. From observation, it seems Spyder must have the biggest penetration by far. But I have to say I see a lot of the ladies on HD's.

Don't know..!!

of any..you could see if there is a way to search the membership by gender..I do know that GOS passed the 1000 mark some time back so there are at least that many....

This is an interesting point to ponder...
Buyer demographics are loved by manufacturers; does anybody have a REALLY good source at BRP to ask?

if

if BRP could answer this question but not other questions we are asking will only prove to me that SALES is their most important worry

Given that BRP in 2014 will have its first full year of public traded stock on a market, I would think these numbers and more will begin to come into our grubby little hands.

I agree it would be a interesting subject. If they are wearing full gear and full face helmet, it could be hard to tell if a rider is female or male.
A more intersting subject would be women riding the brand, they want. I know of more then one female would like to ride a different brand, like the spyder, but Husband/boy friend/live in say ride this or nothing. I am NOT going to get the middle of this mess.

If you take the approx. 1000 ladies registered on GOS and compare it to the 12,000 or so members on SL, and discount that for the fact that some are women--I think we can come up with a ballpark 10%. However--I am also guessing that the % will grow over time.

RE: BRP sales figures. Generally, demographic type of information is usually not disclosed. I still don't think we have figured out how many :spyder2:'s total have been sold--although we have kicked the 40K to 50K number around a bit.

i guess

the only way to tell is for BRP to look up and see how many were sold and registered to female's unless some bikes were put in wife's names to save on insurance but that would get a ball park figure

Sorry, I just found it funny you said "biggest penetration", what was the question again?

I would almost most be willing to wager that there is a. Marketeer some where that is tracking that very market?

cuznjohn seems to have forgotten that without marketing and sales there would be no need for the product line, engineering, technicians and manufacturing divisions!!!:banghead:

Fred Rau told me a couple of years ago that 42% of Spyder buyers were women. I've not seen nor heard any other statistic.

The marketing department is for sure tracking as much demographic information as they can. The issue here seems that they are not disclosing the information to the general public. I would say that in Alaska, about 40% of the :spyder2: drivers that I have seen are women. My sample constitutes 20 or less total :ani29:'s. As far as statistics go--not a complete sample.
