Accent Lighting Question

I am looking into putting some accent lights on my RSS. I am loooking hard at the Spyder ST5 Accent Light Kit from Custom Dynamics and am wondering if anyone has put this kit on? Is it an easy install and how satisfiying was the final outcome? Any and all help will be appreciated.

I've been looking at the same type thing. Would love to see a set of installation instructions as I am a ten thumbed mechanic and would need a lot of details. Take these panels off. Plug this in here. Mount this light strip here. All with lots of pics.

I did survive a JBPro install on my RTS solely because of the excellent instructions. Once I get home and get my Spyder out of storage mode, I may undertake accent light installation.

I will let you know what kind of instructions this has. I should have them delivered by the end of this week and will be putting them on Friday or Saturday.

Update on the progress:

I recieved the lighting package yesterday at about 5:30 PM. I started disassembly of my spyder at about 6ish. The packaging of the product is nice and don't think any lights could be harmed in the shipping process. There are ALOT of light bars in this particular lighting so be forwarned. The instructions are decent at best and the pictures showing placement of the light bars leaves alot to be desired. My shop partner and I called it quits at about 3 in the morning so we have 9 hours in the install so far. Every panel including fenders need to be removed for correct placement of the lights. There is ALOT of wiring but connections are easy and if you can wire a home audio system or anything of that nature you will be able to install these lights. Patients is needed and some time. I would guess we should be able to wrap the project up after another 4 or 5 hours tonight. My only worry is that every panel has atleast one light bar on it so when work at the dealer needs done, I'm thinking wires are going to get messed up and I will be trouble shooting bad connections.

I will have pictures after tonights work of the finished product and will let everyone know how the final lighting looks.

The project has been finished. We put another 4 hours into it last night before finishing. I'm sure the project can be done faster but but both I and my shop partner are perfectionists when it comes to wiring and if it doesn't look factory, it is wrong. The first attempt at turning the lights on resulted in an instantly blown fuse so we had to trouble shoot that problem as well. We caused the problem as we had hooked up one connection wrong and all went well after that. In total, we have 13 hours of work. Keep in mind, we weren't racing the clock and had some good laughs while doing it.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the outcome and would recommend this kit to anyone looking to go all out on accent lighting. It is somewhat an intensive project and I will be glad to answer any questions about the install. Pictures don't do it justice but here are a few from my iPhone:

Looks good...I don't think red lights are legal in all states though...your hard work came to fruition...can you turn them on and off with a switch, make them blink, etc?

Good job...you won't be missed at night and some might think you're an UFO....(good thing!)

The package comes with a switch that you can turn them on and off with. I got an optional remote to turn them on and off so I didn't have to find a suitable place for the switch that would be easily accessible. I did not get the top remote system that makes it blink and have the "breathing" effect as I wouldn't use it enough to justify the extra cost. It is not legal here to have your lights blinking while in motion.

Good call...I guess the blinking is the issue with the lights here in MD...no blue or red...makes sense as they are police colors.

Enjoy the new mod...looks great!

I did this about a year ago to help CD put together their kits. They did a great job helping me out on figuring out how many and where. The where, I just took everything apart and took me about 3 months to get them exactly where I wanted. I have a full schema on where mine are but found, it is so easy, you can put them just about anywhere. I have blue, yes, I know, not legal but most cops don't bug me or they pull up and tell me to turn them off. I have the flasher which is cool but only turn them on if I am parked somewhere. I have a total of 700 on there right now with a few more to add on still. I have some older pics when I did the first stage, there about double the amount on there now.

If you can round up a current pic, I'd like to see it. The kit I got has 678 LED's so people can definitly see me coming......

I love the red look. Great Job. Its a lot of work but well worth it in the end. :2thumbs::2thumbs:

I already have three other bike(non spyders) I have to install the lights on now.

I went with the multi color. Cause there are just some days I want different colors. green = st Patrick's day, pink = breast cancer and so on. Or (while in parking lot "showing off" I have it on fade or flash)
