• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Additional Heat Shielding?

I tried some exhaust "heat tape" on the outside of the glovebox foam insulation...
All it did was keep my garage door opener from being able to talk to the garage door... :gaah: :roflblack:

Can't vouch for the RT, but I added that reflective heat tape to my RS side panels and atop the gas tank. It helps *a little bit*, and every little bit helps, but it's unfortunately not a dramatic reduction by itself.

Note that I have NOT wrapped my exhaust, so all I did was add the tape, cutting it in strips to line the plastic side panels and I taped over the foam insulation as well.

One other thing: it may be brand-specific, but the heat tape I bought wasn't all that sticky, i.e. once you get it on, you have to press it hard to bond, and even then if I had to make any kind of bend or curve the tape wanted to come up. A few weeks out from taping up the panels the stuff seems to be holding up well, but I won't be surprised if by this time next year I'll have to take all the old tape off and re-tape it if I so choose.

I know if I lived in AZ I would want as much protection from the heat as possible so I recommend going with having your pipes ceramic coated, http://www.jet-hot.com/coatings/jet-hot-extreme-2500/ Yes it is a lot more work because you have to remove the pipes but you only do it once and you're done. Send the heat where it belongs, out the back of the bike not under the bodywork!

Looks nice. What's the cost of coatings them?

ceramic coating

I just dropped off all the exhaust pipes of my GS to be ceramic coated.. the total cost was $150.

I'm not going to bother with my RS-- particularly since I also ride all through the winter, the heat then is welcome ;)-- but I *guarantee you*, I'm totally doing this if I ever get a new Spyder (RT, STS, whatever-the-heck they call it). In fact, I'll have it the dealer take the pipes off and mail them in before they ever finish building the Spyder for me-- just do it before I even have to ride it.
