There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Any model/year Spyders you would avoid buying?

Hellos, I am looking into buying either a Ryker Rally or a Spyder F3. For a Ryker I will go brand new but for Spyder it will have to be used. I want the F3 as it's the type of riding style where you are "in" the bike instead of just "on" it. Because of this, I'm doing a lot of research on cost of ownership, how much repairs cost, how much parts cost, labor, how often things break, stuff like that. Having some difficulty in finding out if there are any specific years that Spyder owners say to avoid, or if there are any specific things to look out for when it comes to used purchases.

I won't be buying until end of year (like October-ish) but when I do it will probably have to be years 2014 up, since I'm looking for a specific price range. Any info you guys can provide would be much appreciated!

I have owned 3 different Spyders … and probably would never own a Ryker.

I had my 2016 F3L from new until January 2023 … and it was a fun machine and a joy to ride.

:welcome:

I would stay with the 2014 Spyder models and up because they have the "1330" Ace Engine, which is a low maintenance, quieter engine; only needing oil changes every 9,300 miles/or 1 year, whichever comes first. The "1330" Ace Engine has a lot of power to tow a trailer, even with 2-up, the engine is smoother and the ride is comfortable.

I am on my 3rd Spyder, I had 2 RT's (a 2012 RTS-SE5, and a 2014 RTS-SE6) I now have a 2023 F3 LTD Special; on the F3 you sit lower, and you are more relaxed position when riding. The F3 handles the corners tighter.

I would not get a Ryker, for me it is a fun factor/commuter bike.

Personally prefer the dash pre-18. With stand alone GPS & actual radio-not app required. 14's & up all have the 1330 motor except for the Rykers, & Ryker's are ok, just minimal & feel 1/2 sized (already was accustomed to the features & size of the STL) Buying used you can hopefully find someone who kept accurate maintenance logs. Any & all recall bulletins need to be done. Might find some loaded with farkles, but ultimately you've gotta figure out what you want. Some farkles maybe no longer available. (Farkle: Fancy Accessory Really Kool Likely Expensive)

If you are after an F3 you have no choice but to look for 2014 & up. The F3 came out in 2015!

Ryde a Spyder?

:coffee:...Welcome, definitely do your homework. Like most toys, a Spyder is a fun Ryde and I love mine. That being said, I would recommend that you visit with your local Spyder Dealer and see them. If you are able to Ryde the Spyders that is a big plus. So check out which one is best for you. Lots of good Tips have been posted above. Be sure and read all of the Posts.
Good Luck with your Mission. ....

I do not recall anyone posting bad things abougt the F3 line up. All have the 1330/3 engine which is good and low maintenance.

Pre-2014 spyders with the 998 engines are now discontinued. Parts and service may be difficult.

I have had 08 and 09 GS and RS. One manual and one semi auto. Both 998's.
I have had 2010, 2011 RTS. Both with 998 engines.
I have also had a 2014 RTS. This with the 1330 engine.
Lastly, 2 F3L's. One 2019 and one 2020.

No major issues with any of the above. Going on 200,000 assorted miles over the years with the above.

Thanks I think I would want the 1330 engine so I'll start with the year 2014. I appreciate it!

I know you said you are looking at the F3 - but I want to clarify things because I see people say all the time - 2014 and up have the new motor - and this is NOT ENTIRELY the case. BRP continued to sell the RS/RSS and ST models through 2017 - and those 2 models NEVER got the 1330. So you absolutely can buy a Spyder that is 2014 or newer (though 2017) that does NOT have the 1330 motor.

All F3 models and RT models that are 2014 (F3 came out in 2015) or newer will have the 1330 - but NOT all Spyders.
