Bad Timing!

Yow! Doesn't sound like fun at all. I rode the ladder down a few years back. Like I was, you are fortunate, indeed. It could have been so much worse. Heal fast...and go buy yourself a roof rake. In my experience, ladders and slippery ground are not a good combination. :)

Actually Scotty I have a roof rake and was using it, but there is about 2-3 feet at the peak, that I can't get with the rake. So I go on the roof and just push it down to where I can again use the rake. That was the part I was at. Think one of the reasons was my ladder had be on the deck for a week and I think the rubber pads may have had some ice on them. :dontknow:That combined with a bit of snow on the deck may for the combination you speak of! Thanks for your words.

OUCH!!! I was going to say just tell them you lost the argument. By the way, don't ask my wife about chain saws and hurricane clean up.:yikes:

Roof rakes... Most of the time you're pulling the dang snow right down on top of yourself anyway! :gaah:
I caught myself in a real "Darwin Award" situation with one once;
I set a 24 foot extension ladder up on top of our porch... another 6 feet off the ground.
Climb to the top , where the snow was 2 feet deep up on our roof! :yikes:
I almost startedpulling the snow right back toward me, when I realized that if a big enough chunk of the snowpack broke loose, it'd take me and the ladder straight to the blacktop driveway...

By the way; the portion of our roof has a 7 on 12 pitch!
I "got "out of Dodge" quickly and never thought about pulling a stupid stunt like that again...

Your lucky it could have been worse. It's time to invest in a roof rake. For 40 or 50 bucks you can do your roof snow removal standing on the ground.

Just glad you're ok, always have some one at the bottom of the ladder.

At least you will be rested for SITA this year...

VERY MOST IMPORTANT

Getting ready for our 10 anniversary cruise to Hawaii on Saturday, and go figure, I decide to shovel my roof, in case we had a major storm while we were gone. I put the ladder on the deck and start up it (done this a hundred times over the years) just go to step on the roof and the ladder kicks out. Slam my head on the rain gutters and fall the rest of the way to the deck 8'. I guess was blanked out for a bit, as when I came to I was bleeding like a pig, and could not stand. Somehow managed to drag myself inside to call my neighbour, as my wife was out.Luckily neigbour's daughter is a trauma nurse. Anyway long story, short, ambulance comes takes me to the hospital. After numerous x rays, scans etc, I have 2 black eyes , 4 stitches above my right eye. Moral of this story, listen to your wife when she says stay off the roof until she gets home, carry a cell phone at all times, and always, always make sure your ladder is stable. Anyway it will be slow going on the cruise and vacation pictures won't be pretty,LOL, but could have been much worse! Anyway spyderlovers, will talk when we get back and everyone play and work safe!!
Actually, this is second most important...The first is don't have any accident's , The second is never ,never, do anything even remotely dangerous when you " ALONE ". You lucked out this time and I'm glad you are relatively OK ..Mike.....

So sorry to hear about this! The outcome could have been so much worse and I'm glad that it wasn't. Since you now have two black eyes can we have your permission to nickname you bandit? (LOL) :joke: Take care of yourself and get lot's of rest on your cruise and most of all...have a wonderful time! Happy Anniversary too. Make sure to have a fruity drink with an umbrella in it for me and soak up lot's of sun and warm sea breezes.  :)

Glad to hear your OK after reading your post, you seem to be in good spirits even after that trauma. As I tell most of my friends after a accident, you deserve some sympathy lovin from the wife! see how that grabs her! :lecturef_smilie:

Have a great time on the cruise!

Wow, you took some serious bumbs!!! Hope you don't feel too lousy. I'm sure by now you know you were lucky to only have hurt yourself to this degree. Next time, at least do things like this with someone around to call for help. I'm chicken on a ladder. Hate heights over a few feet. Hope the bruises don't interfer with you having a good time on your cruise. Celebrate your new found wisdom of not doing things like this in the future!!!

I had that same problem at my peak (er, the roof's peak). I finally tracked down an extension section for my roof rake on the Internet. I took my ride down because of the ladder sitting on a plastic tarp...when it started raining. Slick ladder feet move fast! Aren't these "learning experiences" fun?

You're absolutely right about always having your cell phone on you when you do dangerous things. I once had to cut a large branch off a tree and to get to it I climbed a 24' ladder and then climbed onto the tree. I cut off the branch and it fell right onto the ladder knocking it down. So there I was 30' high in a tree holding a chain saw with no way down. No one was home and no cell phone. I might have spent the night up there if it wasn't for a UPS delivery guy who happened to show up an hour later. :roflblack:

Thanks everyone for the kind words and the words of wisdom. This once again shows that spyderlovers are the most amazing people:clap::thumbup:We leave for LA tomorrow at 6 am and leave San Pedro port on Saturday. Will be in Hawaii this time next week, so that should help recovery!:yes:.
