• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BajaRon Ultra swaybar and BajaRon front shocks coming in this afternoon for my 2023 Spyder RTL. I am going to have my local Can Am dealer do the install. I am un-mechanical...

Any suggestions for initial settings for a 200 pound person would be appreciated.

Thanks

See below...

  • Adjusting Ride Height
  • Configure your Spyder for your average ride. 1-up, 2-up, average baggage, etc.
  • On a flat and level surface, have a helper measure from the bottom of the central frame member towards the front of that frame member to the floor.
  • Using the provided Red Spanner Wrench, if needed, adjust the spring preload so that, loaded as described in first step, the ground to frame measurement is between 3.5” and 4”.

  • Be sure to make the same, exact number of turns to each shock adjustment ring.

  • Adjust Hydraulic Click Setting
  • The Hydraulic Click Setting at the end of the rod on each shock should be set to ZERO when you receive them. You can check this by turning the click ring 1 click in the (+) direction, then turn it until it stops in the (-) direction. The ring turns easily so do not force it. We do this to get the rider familiar with this easy and accessible adjustment process.
  • We recommend starting with a (+) click setting of between 25 and 30 clicks. Use the lower number if loading is less than 200 lbs. And the 30 setting if loading is 200 lbs. or more. This is a starting point, and we recommend experimenting to find your ‘Sweet Spot’ once you’ve ridden your new shocks and gotten used to them.
  • You MUST make the same number of clicks in the same direction (+ or -) for each shock. Mismatching the click setting will give you less than optimum performance. If you lose track, simply return both to the Zero setting and start over.
  • When experimenting with new settings we recommend making a 5 click change. This will give you enough change to know if you are going in the right direction. Then fine tune from there.

Did JRI request any rider particulars, such as:
Rider geared weight
Percentage of riding with passenger
Weight of passenger
Percentage of riding with luggage

One might think that JRI would set preload/rebound parameters based on rider input to at least get the shocks set up in a ball park setting.

All of that sounds good. But what we have found is that there are so many variables, not the least of which are the rider's expectations and sense of what an ideal ride means to them. In short, you are the best option for stetting shock parameters that fit your riding style. We've done all we can to make that as easy and intuitive as possible.

Spring preload is preset by JRi to a good mid-weight setting. But should be checked as instructions prescribe (easily done). The instructions we've come up with will get the lion's share of riders in the ballpark with hydraulics (first ride).

The compression/rebound adjustment is so easy and intuitive that we also encourage riders to experiment with that. We purposefully set this at zero so riders get familiar with this adjustment which we hope will give them confidence to experiment with it.

Obviously, if loading is going to be much less or much more than what might be considered within an average spread. And believe me, those riders know who they are. Adjusting outside of the recommendations given in the instructions (either plus or minus) will be something these outliers will understand.
