There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Bike or Trike

Why do so many refer to their trike as a bike?:lecturef_smilie: Bad habit, shame, what? I read some of these posts and see the word bike and have to re-read to see if they are indeed talking about a Spyder and not some bike.:banghead: Just curious.:dontknow:

"Bike" just kind of rolls off the keyboard easier...
It doesn't matter what it's called; it's more important what it does for you anyway!

Calling the Spyder, Or for that matter my Tri Glide a bike ,
In my opinion is a Freudian slip.
Just read some of the comments when a biker doesn't wave back to someone on a Trike.

We have a garage full of motorcycles.. so calling the Spyder a bike once in a while is habit.

Bike: A vehicle consisting of a light frame mounted on two wheels one behind the other.
Trike: Originally a three wheeled horse drawn carriage. Any vehicle consisting of three wheels other than a motorcycle & sidecar combo.
Roadster: Originally an open carriage drawn by a single horse, later to mean a lightweight open automobile with two seats. (Think 32 Ford Roadster)

BUT - if you want to get down to semantics. The Spyder is clearly not a "bike" - too many wheels. It is also not a true "roadster" - too few wheels (even though Can Am insists on the term, incorrectly)

Wikiquote: The Can-Am Spyder ("Spyder") is a three-wheeled motorcycle manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products.[SUP][1][/SUP] The vehicle has a single rear drive wheel and two wheels in front for steering, similar in layout to a modern snowmobile. The Spyder uses an ATV-like chassis. The manufacturer refers to it as a "roadster," but in technical terms it is more of what has been traditionally called a trike.

The Spyder is a trike, or more correctly a reverse trike - but that's too many letters to type all the time.

Besides, we don't have to get all anal about it, do we? :D

Some guy named Billy Shakespeare said "What's in a name, that which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet."

I was just wondering. I just call the thing a Spyder most of the time. But to me it is a trike. Has three wheels and isn't a bike with sidecar. I also just figured everyone is so used to saying and typing "bike" they don't think to say or type "trike". Like I said, was just wondering.

Been riding in the wind for 60 years. Most of that time on two wheels. Force of habit to call it a bike after all that time.

Well said!

I, too, have a garage full, including a motorized tricycle, but I sometimes slip, just out of out of habit. We have the same difficulty with our Terra-Trike pedal tadpole trikes. We often refer to "riding our bikes".

I also have difficulty with the Spyder being called a "roadster". To me that is a '32 Ford highboy or a bathtub Porsche (also a Spyder, BTW).

The Spyder is indeed a trike...specifically a "reverse trike" or "tadpole trike". That's a mouthful, however. I just call it a Spyder, and let people figure it out from there.

Willy Shakespeare was right!

Having ridden since I was 17 (1968) I call it either the Spyder or the bike. Just habit. I also have many, many, many people who come up to talk to me about it call it a bike. So, who am I to say?

I can not get to excited about I call my Spyder. Is a trike, Roadster, reverse trike or thing-a-bob. I just call it a fun machine.
For the older crowd on here. What do you call a Whizzer, beside bad names.

I cannot repeat those words on a family-oriented forum! I have owned vewry few bikes that I actually hated, during my liftetime, the Wheezer was one (and the first). I wasn't too fond of my BSA Victor 441 or my Honda CB550-4, either.
