• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can a Used ECM be married to a bad one without BUDS?

You will need BUDS to make a replacement ECM functional, as Snowbelt Spyder points out. We have had good luck at the shop with used eBay ECM's. But if you go that route, don't take the seller's word for anything. Not that they are necessarily lying to you. But most have no idea what works with what. Some guess. Some tell you what the Internet says. Etc.

You really want to go with the original part number. Not that subsequent part numbers won't work. But we've found that to be iffy, depending on things that probably no one understands.

Swapping out the ECM should be your last resort. Nothing worse than doing this only to discover that the one you had was fine and the problem is elsewhere in the system. Faulty wiring looms are also a good possibility in these situations. It can be a bear to figure out sometimes.

My question was can the new/used ECM be programmed off the bike with BUDS to marry the old ECM (existing from bike) already removed on the bench?

 No, your question was...

And No, as both @Snowbelt Spyder & @BajaRon have answered, you'll need to use BUDS to match all the necessary sensors/components that are already on the Spyder to the new ECM... :cautious:

So there's no point in trying to match (or marry) the two ECM's on the bench, cos even if you could manage to connect them, the Spyder still won't work until you've installed a working ECM into your Spyder and then matched all the necessary sensors/components (that also need to be installed/in situ on the Spyder) using BUDS. ;)

Just Sayin' :sneaky:

What Peter said...

If the old ECM is kaput, then you don't want (even if you could, which you can't) to have them talking to each other.
