• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. considering on buying a spyder

I went Saturday to our closest dealership and enjoyed riding the F3 the only one the left you demo. The only thing I am most scared of is hearing all the problems people are having with them. I have a two hour drive to the dealership and that's the closest one to me. Harley dealerships are everywhere and I plan to travel. So what I am really wondering are these dependable or are they for basically around town and plan rides around dealerships. I am a single female and do not want to be stranded 10 hrs from home.

:welcome:
You always seem to hear about the trouble...

...While the folks who have had none; are out on the roads riding! :2thumbs:
It's not nearly as bad, as the internet would have you believe! :D

:welcome:

I have a 2014 ST-L and have had no issues with it.

Just keep in mind.....you go to any motorcycle or car internet forum...all issues are amplified. It is still a small % of any product that has issues. The Spyders are expensive to maintain so I would suggest doing the maintenance that you can yourself and invest in the extended warranty.

Many owners travel all over the country....so properly equipped, they are great to vacation on.

If you get one, enjoy it !:spyder:

Soooo....

What's holding you back..What you read...Only the bad and the ugly gets written up and hammered to the point of makeing us believe that every one of the item in question is bad...Sad but true, the good seems to bore people...:banghead::banghead: as you may know it doesn't sell papers..:roflblack: granted these machines have issues like all man made machines but not in any proportion they would make you believe. There are spyders from production 1 still running strong with over 100,000 miles on them. This site only has 25%+/- of the ryders out there and of those maybe a 1/4 have serious issues. But hey this is a fun recreational vehicle  welcome to the site...

It took a "leap" of faith by me to buy also. Wish I hadn't waited, I have been on 10 day road trips, and many shorter ones.
This is the most oil-tight, "put together" cycle I have ever owned, and I have owned many. Can Am dealer network is nothing
to write home about, and quality varies widely, based ONLY on reports. But I don't see my dealer, except maybe once a year
for service.

Newbie

Newbie here and no regrets with buying my first spyder. I have a F3-S apart from a few niggles it has been reliable for the first 4500 miles. Here's keeping my fingers crossed that you buy one.

:welcome: Think, woulda, coulda, shouda. Anything can happen and sometimes does.

Am I afraid to get on my :spyder2: and go? Not. Been with the brand since the beginning.

Check the signature below. I am still a happy camper.

Thank you

I wanted to answer a few questions for everyone. First what is holding me back I do not finance anything believe cash is the only acceptable way to pay, don't have to worry about what happens if I lose my job them taking anything from me. Secondly, I like to research before I invest in anything that cost this much. I still want to try a tri glide and freewheeler, see what fits me best and what does not cause more pain to me. I hope everyone is out enjoying this great day to ride I will continue reading and getting as much information as I can from all of you. I am sure I will have more questions.

Good luck on your search.I have a 2015 RT S with 14000 km on it with no problems.I have had 2 Goldwings plus many other bikes.I find the forums really good for info but pay little attention to the problems that's posted. All man made machines can have issues.

My wife and I talked about getting one for 5 years. Then we bought 2. A F3 for me and a ST for her. I keep asking why did we wait so long. Go for it.

Be sure to let us know how the Tri-Glide compares. I've never ridden one, but I understand they are a lot harder to steer because they want to keep going in a straight line. The Spyder goes where you steer it to. Also keep in mind the Spyder has a lot more computer safety controls built into it. Be sure to ask about ABS, vehicle stability system, automatic throttling back in hard turns, and so forth.

(Couldn't help myself)
Any new vehicle has their quirks cant make any promises but how much you will enjoy the spyder overall the rest. You know what to look out for.

I have had my F3-S for 7 months and put on over 10,000 miles with no driving issues. My only recommendation if you are looking at the F3 models, is to get a 2016 model. The 2015 models windshield and rear shock are not the best design but are functional.

Good luck on your test driving and comparing and I',m sure you'll make the right decision. I'm glad your reading all the post here and learn what you need. The only sure thing in life is that you made the effort to better your odds.

I already had a used 2010 RTS and when I considered upgrading to a 2014 with the 1330 engine, I also seriously looked at a HD Tri-Glide for many of the same reasons you have. I'm a single woman and like to tour. My nearest Spyder dealer is 2 1/2 hours from me and my preferred dealer is 300 miles away. The Spyders with the 998 engine need to be serviced every 3000 miles, and I figured it would be nice to just go across town to my local HD dealer for those types of things. And if I'm touring, I could probably find a HD dealer close by about anywhere.

So I did a test ride on the HD Tri and didn't like it as much as the Spyder, but thought I could live with it. It had bells & whistles, etc. But I was already part of this wonderful Spyder community. Of course the HD folks have a community, too. Then I talked Len at Pitbull in Springfield, Mo., who told me about the longer service interval on the 1330 ACE engines. I was relieved that I could have another Spyder and still commune with my Spyder friends. (I hadn't realized how much I would miss that until then.)

You should try the HD and see what you think. I'd love to have you become part of the Spyderverse, but only you can make that decision. I hope you'll let us know about whichever way you decide. Good luck.

All you are hearing on SL is from the few that have had some problems?? It's the same with automobiles. You are NOT hearing from the thousands who have NOT had any issues with their Spyder... I am on my 3rd Spyder - 2010, 2012 and now 2014 RT Limited. I traded UP each time cuz I wanted the very best and top of the line. Simple as that AND MOST IMPORTANT I have NOT had one single issue with any of my Spyders!!!
I would say go for it and you will get the best ride of your life...

We bought our 2015 RT-S last August. We now have 10,000+ miles on it without problems that prevented from moving along. We have a minor screen display issue, which I am monitoring, but it has not prevented us from riding. Go for it !! at least IMHO.

<snip> I still want to try a tri glide and freewheeler, see what fits me best and what does not cause more pain to me........

I suggest you take a demo ride on the TriGlide and/or Freewheeler, then take a demo ride on a Spyder. The difference in handling and comfort is significant. (Not to mention the price difference)

As others have pointed out, complainers always make the most noise on any motorcycle or car forum. However, if you look at the number of posts on which people are enjoying their Spyders, going on long rides, adding farkles, etc, you will see that they far outnumber the problems. Yes, it's true that there have been some issues with DESS and other things, but those are a small percentage of the number of Spyders that are out on the roads.

I've had my 2015 RT-S for just under a year now, and have ridden over 20,000 miles across five states with no issues.

Good luck with your decision, whichever way you choose to go.

I don't know where you would find "facts" about the F3 (or any Spyder model) dependability. Certainly not on an internet forum devoted to "Spyderlovers." Plus the F3 is just in its second year of manufacturing.

I would speculate that only BRP (manufacturer) has some data based on warranty claims from dealers. SpyderFax - ala CarFax does not exist where dealer repairs and accident reports are available to the public.

I can only say from my personal experience having owned Can-Am Spyder's from their birth (2008), I've had my Spyder (at the time) towed "once" to dealer. I now have an F3 - purchased April 2015 - 100% trouble free to date. Over 100,000 can-am spider's have been manufactured to date.

Am I personally comfortable riding my Can-Am Spyder F3 anywhere/anytime? - absolutely. However, on long distance trips whenever possible I ride with others. Riding any motorcycle comes with a significant set of its own risks.

There are many active Spyder riding clubs throughout the united states, and worldwide for group rides and support. Even more forth coming with our aging population. Three wheels are better than two wheels for old farts like me.:roflblack:

In IMHO when taking long distance rides, "10 hours from home," it is always better to buddy up with other Spyder/motorcycle riders.

On BRP website you can find list of all can-am dealers locations, in addition on this website you can find where to get a list of Spyder owners (names, phone numbers, addresses) that are willing to help if you happen to have Spyder trouble while riding in their area.

This website is a good source of support - some members here have been helped when on the road within minutes.

Best of Luck in your wind in the face choice of recreational freedom vehicles - so many choices so little time to ride.
