• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you know where your "Bars" come from?

What is your "normal" bar count?

There is a thermostat on the motor - why dosen't it regulate the heat like our cars so. The car warms up to temp, then stays there. The spyder is all over the place.

Mine has been as low as one and two, ryding in 35 - 40 degree heat.

"Normal" for me is four to five bars.

Have seen six sitting in traffic during a 90 degree day. This drops to five when I get back up to speed.

What are your results?

Not sure if I've seen 6 before.

Im guessing if the CanAm is like other motorcycles I have seen, the temp sensor is in the radiator where it can also control the fan turning on/off?

I would not say what you are seeing is too unusual.

I not familiar with your experience on sport bikes or motorcycles; but all of their engines will vary quite a bit in temperature depending on all the factors you mentioned.

One reason they do is that their water-cooling system is not very large when compared to an auto (as you questioned). An auto's system handles considerably more water (coolant); thus allowing for a more consistent temp control process.

Again, I would not be too concerned about what you are experiencing unless you begin to see the temp remain consistently high in all conditions.

As I see it..!!

you are within the normal temps. They are the cooling system temps and therefore subject to changes with your surrounding area. Being a smaller engine than your automobile the changes are more radical. Remember they are still an air cooled engine assisted by a small water cooler. :thumbup:

Your description is a pretty good copy of what I see also. Can't tell you where the sensor is located though.

Mine are the same as yours under the conditions you describe.
 
Bars

Mine is normally around 4 bars, it will rise to 5 in traffic and it was as low a 3 bars yesterday, saying that it was the first day of winter here.
I rode it hard yesterday keeping in the 5-6000 rev range for all the gears and when I got home I lifted the seat to see how hot the gas cap was and it was the first time that I had ever noticed how hot it got. :mad:

I use the analog auxilliary gauges, and that baby usually stays just below halfway up the scale. That's out on the orad at normal speeds on a nice 74 or so degree day
 
In the morning when it's in the 50's to low 60's I will run 3 bars sometimes when doing 65 on the freeway. 4 bars is pretty average when it's below 90 and I am doing 65 on the freeway. 5 bars when it's 90 or above no matter how fast.
Around December last year it was in the high 30's (38 F as I recall) and runing down the freeway I saw it actually drop to 2 bars. I had the grip heaters on full! It was cold for Ca!

I only ever saw 6 bars once and that was after a very hot day and when I shut off the Spyder. The fan ran and when the fan shut off (still had the key on) I saw 6 bars for a few minutes.
