Drilling a hole in your key?

I can't remember what board I saw this on but there was some talk about drilling a hole in their key for a keyring. Seems like the sheath that comes with the keys works pretty darn good to me. :dontknow:

I do not think drilling on the key is a good move.
The case / sheath would be a better move.

Hello Guys, I am sure that you have already found out that the keys have a computer chip embedded in the rubber portion of the key. I was specifically warned not to drill any holes in the key. This would require replacing the key for a substantial sum. Each key is coded specifically for that particular bike's ignition system.

I wish there was a hole in the key too. When you use the key, then you need a place to store the sheath, got to put them back together when you're finished, etc. I always put mine in my coat pocket, but with gloves, etc. it's not always the easiest thing to do in a hurry. I'm pretty sure the sheath will get misplaced eventually. I like having the bike keys (HD and Spyder) on the same ring. Who here has successfully drilled a hole toward the side?

since the sheath has a hole in it you can attach it to the rest of your keys, so you don't have the sheath loose in your pocket ?

May be a girlie thing but I have my sheath attached to my regular key ring which clips onto anything (scuba diver's clip). I just insert the key back into the sheath, where ever I clipped the entire keyring. I wish that it was like the modern fob thingy and just being around enabled the ignition...just needing the key for the trunk, etc.

about the trunk; it's anoying to turn the engine off to access the trunk. If I drop off my daughter at school and she wants to place her helmet in the trunk I have to turn off the engine just for that...

I also got lo-jack installed on mine at my dealership but I'm a bit concerned since my dealership didn't give me a lo-jack key to go with. Are there two different models of lo-jack out there or am I getting shafted and paid $700 bucks and don't have Lo-Jack installed even though the dealership said it was?

I believe that you can contact Lo-Jack and ask for a "test"...they send a signal to your vehicle and report the location to you. You need to have the signal tested periodically to make sure the unit has not broke or been damaged.

I epoxied a key "ring" to the key and attach that to another key ring. A little dab will do ya and the color matches Seems pretty secure as well.
