• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Exercise much?

I've been an on-again-off-again worker-outer over most of my adult life. I would get fit and as long as it was convenient, I'd continue an exercise program. But then I'd slack off and get out of shape again. I've been fit, really fit

, and quite flabby. So I know from experience that I feel better when I'm in better shape, and being in better shape makes moving around easier. As I get older that's more important!

So I've been slacking off for about a year-and-a-half now and I'm considering starting up again. A year or so ago, I joined a new golf & fitness place at a decent price, but had to pay extra for a trainer.

(The trainer really helped me push my limits and improve.) We have a Y that's cheap, but they don't do much as to coaching/training. Now I'm considering joining a local Cross Fit box. It costs a bit more than the other place, but includes coaching and group encouragement.

So does anyone here do Cross Fit? If you do any kind of fitness program, what do you do and how do you like it?

 Does running to the bathroom during commercial breaks count? :dontknow:

:opps: I didn't think so...

:congrats: on your new routine. I look forward to meeting the "New You" in Missouri! :2thumbs:

Congrats..!!

Stay with it...don't test it or check it and you will be rewarded. Avoid mirrors, scales etc. I have no plan but move around all day. My favorite workout is a day ryde in the mountains...ryde with me and you will sleep good at night....:roflblack:nojoke

Our company bought us all the entry level Fit Bit for Christmas one year. Since I received that I set a goal of 10,000 steps a day. That has really changed me and help me keep my weight down my BP down and my A1c from climbing. It costs me a battery every 3 months.

I've been doing the following for three weeks - feel great - loads of energy throughout the day
Walk 6 miles M-W-F [if weather is bad - treadmill]
Walk 3 miles w/light weights and core strengthening stretches T-TH
I did check out our cross-fit in town but everyone was in the 20-30 age range and after their class was over "they" looked whipped! The "kids" in the classes said the workout was intense.....

No personal experience with CrossFit but

There is a group in my area (Like in all of USA..I judge CrossFit as a fitness culture)...the youngers luv it the olders that tried it said OMG NO..not what the average older body needs. BUT Patti, like all things in life, you have to assess and decide for yourself. I agree that I personally need to move more..so for me it is walking outdoors, when weather permits, ryding a stationary bike and dancing around the house...anything that will get my arse off the couch is a benefit.

I have Humana Insurance ... and they offer free access to a couple of fitness clubs here.... I like Snap Fitness 24-7.. hours are convenient .. I go 3 times a week for a hour.. ride a bike for 20 minutes... and work with machines for 40 minutes.. plus I shoot competition pistol in matches.. moving/running and shooting... keeps mind and body sharp...

A company I used to work for had on-site fitness centers staffed by professionals who would help set up a program and increase it every few months. That was really convenient because I could go to work early, work-out, shower and go on to work. The best improvement I've ever made, though was with a personal trainer who changed up my program every couple weeks. But that got expensive. I really need someone to push me to move more and do more with my movements - like more weights, steeper slant board, etc.

I had not done much regarding fitness for years until I retired 4 years ago. At that time, I joined a Planet Fitness about a half mile away. I started with just cardio and last year started alternating some strength training. I generally go to the gym 6 days per week. Work your way into it. As long as you are consistently moving, you will benefit.
Good Luck!

I kind of like the "30 seconds on the treadmill, and an hour of recovery" routine...

Fat people are perceived as jolly; I'm going for the full "Santa" effect!

same here, i am very over weight and have been having doctor tests because i am going to have a weight loss surgery. b4 i decided to have the surgery, i bought a good treadmill and i found out that i am not the man i used to be. the surgery won't be till after the new year, but i am hoping i can use the treadmill after i lose some weight and need to exercise

I have been going to the local YMCA for about 5 years now. I normally go from 4-5 times a week, for an hour each day. On 1 day, I do a class (like 50/50), and the other 3-4 days I alternate between light weight training and cardio. I feel kind of weird using light weights (I used to bench anywhere from 390-400 consistantly), but now I am married, and have nothing to prove. So I use the light weights or machines and am happy. I do have a bad back with a degenerating disc, so moving really helps. If I go less than 3 times a week, I hurt. The more I go, the healthier I feel.

Just carrying the darn things into the house, is considered a lot of exercise...

On my annual check up my Doc told me to exercise but Doc I do exercise at least 30 min a day just like you told me. Ya but you need to sweat he said:banghead: :banghead::banghead::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.

Recreational bicycling year round, on average 3000 plus miles per year...not hard and not fast but very consistently. Being and exercising outdoors, even during the winter months, is great for the body and mind. I also have a daily routine of stretching exercises, sit ups, and light weights. Whatever you decide to do, my advice is to focus on consistency and reasonable goals over the long haul instead of periodic bursts.
