• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Extended Warranty and Dealer Responsibilities

This question deals with the extended warranty. Do CAN AM dealers have a legal responsibility to offer a BRP warranty? In dealing with my broken spyder I was talking to the original dealer San Luis Motorsports and his response and attitude was that BRP warranty was just competition with other extended warranties. Well that is great except that Western Services is refusing to honor the repairs so it looks like I am on the hook for the replacement of the drive shaft and sprocket. A word to potential buyers, if you are going to get an extended warranty, do not waste your money on third party warranties, get the BRP extended warranty. As someone said third party companies focus on selling and not paying off claims.

Sorry to hear about your situation; I hope they will step up and take care of your spyder's issues for you.

ETA: In answer to your original question that I forgot to mention; my original stealer where I bought my Spyder never even made a mention of the availability of an extended warranty at all. I found about it on here and then went to a different dealership to purchase the B.E.S.T. warranty.

In short, no they do not have any obligation to offer the BRP BEST warranty...or any extended warranty at all. In Florida, they are prohibited by law from doing so, as BRPs warranty does not meet Florida's insurance laws...and is considered to be insurance. Sorry you had to be the painful example of the loopholes in many extended warranty plans.

When I purchased my RT-S I was offered the BRP and an aftermarket or non-factory sponsered warranty. The aftermarket one actually was cheaper and was a four year vs three year policy. I elected to take the BRP warranty because I will be servicing at a different dealer than I purchased from and felt that it would be to my advantage and I might get better service in the event of a warrantable repair. Dealers are more co-operative processing a claim if it's thru a company that they deal with regularly. But ...... selling parts and labor it how they make money so it should not make a difference in who they call to process the claim. It might be a pain because they have not dealt with them before but most companies will pay dealers by credit cards. I work at an automotive dealer and don't care where they bought their warranty, if I can sell the warranty company a job and make money I get paid and I have a happy customer. It's a win win situation. Sorry I got a little off track on your question. No I don't think BRP dealers are required to sell factory extended service contracts. But all companies are fairly similar on coverage. They should be able to provide you with a very specific list of covered components or a very specific list of components that are not covered. It's very black and white. I would contact Western and have someone review the claim with you. Possibly sprockets are considered a wear item and not a covered repair? A drive shaft failure, what caused it to fail? If I were you I'd spend time on the phone before paying the bill.
