• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Having seen a few reviews of electric bikes this is where i think BRP should go with the spyder. Replace the engine/gearbox with a motor and battery pack - no gears to worry about. Make sure range is 200 miles and it would be a winner.

This is my bet for the 2017 new model announcement.
 
Sorry monkey boy, I have to disagree.
To go the 900 miles to my daughters, stopping for three hours to recharge every 200 miles, would take waaaay toooooo long! :banghead:
Might work as a commuter, but not a touring bike.

one day they'll invent either a breakthrough in battery technology, or something we haven't thought of yet... Then I will think about it..
 
:agree: Electric vehicles of ANY configuration won't be a viable option for a lot of us, until they get the range increased, and the re-charging times down to manageable levels.
There are already bikes out there, that approach the 200 mile range...

:agree: If I still rode two wheelers - I would definitely get a Zero for local riding - two dealers nearby - great on/off road combo - fast take off and top speed of almost 100mph - low maintenance - plus best solution for when Zombies are around ( very quiet ) :roflblack:

The subject has been kicked around a bit in a previous thread.

The ad is supposed to come of as "green," and it does.

The age old arguments are still there. Miles between charge up, and the biggy--price. When they get them to 1000 mile intervals and costing no more than a gas powered machine--they might get some takers.

Then, you can add the arguments--do they really save on natural resources? I am thinking that getting the electricity off the grid takes more resources than filling up at the gas station. :dontknow:

For me anyway--not in my lifetime. :yes:
 
Why not a Hybrid

I also wonder if a Toyota Prius like hybrid system could be developed as well as the full electric version. It's a little more complicated for sure but the technology already exists. I could full appreciate a 75 to 100 mpg Spyder Hybrid.
 
I can see the range issue in the US as you do more miles on a regular basis. In the UK it would be very unusual for me to do more than 200 miles in a day, with most of my blasts around 100-150 miles max. Even on a tour of Scotland I'm doing later this year I'll be averaging 150 miles in a day.

The zero was the one I read about. My thinking was that an electric Spyder wouldn't have such a big weight penalty as a 2 wheeled bike due to it weighing a lot already. The extra weight would be a smaller increase in percentage terms. And with it being pretty big anyway there's lots of room for batteries, as shown in the concept.

Price is of course a big issue. No-one would buy it unless it was going to be cheaper overall to own, or much faster due to the extra torque. I don't think the environmental stuff is to be dismissed. Yes their is the argument of how clean is the electricity you put in it, but by generating that electricity out of cities and then having zero emissions vehicles in the cities it will reduce deaths from pollution.

I'd be more excited to see BRP go in this direction than a leaning model.
