• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the Forum and the Spyder. I rode my RT home on Saturday. I had my second ride tonight and after about 30 miles and a series of turning maneuvers in a parking lot I got an error message: DPS, then the check engine message. I turned off the bike for a few minutes, then re-started it and rode 10 of the 12 miles toward home. With 2 miles to go I got a limp mode message and my speed was cut from 60 to 40. I pulled over and turned off the bike, re-started again in a couple minutes and drove home without incident. I have e-mailed the dealership. The owner's manual says not to ride the bike any more. What has been your experience? Is it safe to ride the bike now?

I had the same thing happen to me on my new RT-but it was when I was coming home from the dealership after picking up the bike--it had only 10 miles on it!!! I immediately rode it back to the dealership and they took it into the show. The service guy says is something with the electro magnetic (??) in the power steering. In any case, they replace the magnet and it's been find for the last 500 miles. He says the magnet is very fragile and can be easily damaged--even from the factory. I have no idea it that's true--but it seems to be working for now. Good luck

SHUT IT OFF

When this happens I recommend removing the key and stepping away from the Spyder with it if you can and wait at least two minutes before restart.....this may help to totally clear the Nanny and re-boot.....Mike....

Thanks for the responses! My brake light/pedal is not functioning correctly and may be the cause. The brake lights stay on after I remove my foot from the brake unless I give it a sharp 'snap'. The brake lights also stay on when I set the park brake unless I 'snap' the pedal. Can I adjust the spring or other mechanism?

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new ryde. Sounds like you may have some set-up issues going on.

If you are having problem with the brake releasing--I am guessing that is the source of the problem. The nanny thinks you are riding the brake, and that makes the bike go into limp mode.

Keep us posted on what you find out and when the problem gets fixed.

Teddy & I would like to say Congrats on the New Ryde & Welcome to the SpyderHood

:congrats: & :welcome:

Def. take it back to the dealer and have them finish the Pre-Delivery Inspection correctly this time. Sad that this is still going on as much as it is, but its a fact of life right now.

What part of KY are you in? Teddy & I live in Covington/Northern KY, so if your ever up this way, let us know and we can ryde

Thanks, I'd like that! I'm in eastern Ky. about 90 miles southeast of Lexington. My dealer is in Lexington.

My thoughts...the parking lot took a lot out of your battery (the DPS takes a LOT of juice to operate), which probably was not charged up one bit at the dealers. When you ride it back to the dealers, it will have a little more charge and will probably not duplicate itself. Also, another culprit may be loose battery cable connections at the battery. These connections MUST be TIGHT...tight as to when the wrench will not turn anymore.

:agree: This happened to me as well. Mine cleared and I did ride it to the dealer "very carefully". They stated it was an angle sensor where the mount is fragile. When I asked if I would continue to have this issue, he stated that he fixed it so it would not occur again. That was with less than 200 miles on the beast and now I have over 7K and no more problems.

Hope you get it fixed and keep us posted on what the problem was.

BTW: :welcome:and :congrats:on becoming part of the family. This is a great site for information.

Just had 600 mile service on my rt ltd. there was a service bulletin to replace brake light switch

I rode the bike the 90 miles to the dealer this morning. I made sure to nudge the brake pedal up every time I used it. I had no problems. They checked the vin # and there were two necessary software updates (recalls) and they adjusted the brake pedal and said they found no problem with it. I rode home with no problems but will only be sure the brake issue is fixed when I have someone ride behind me for a bit to make sure they are turning off as they should. I'm pleased to say that after 370 miles on the bike I am pretty comfortable with how it handles and having fun.:thumbup:

I took my bike back to the dealership a couple of days ago as I had another limp mode episode. I cleared the computer and rode 400 more trouble free miles after that- so long as I nudged the brake pedal upwards after I used it. They are replacing the brake switch and sensor tomorrow. So hopefully I will be riding trouble free from now on. I can't wait to have it back and take a multi-day ride. :D

Same thing I experienced,...

Summer,

I had the same issue, within a week of taking delivery of my RT LTD. I got the DPS error, and check engine light, and the Nanny kicked in to keep me under 3500 RPM, and no faster than 50 MPH.

I brought the bike back and the dealer took care of the issue with a software update.

The dealer verified that the brake pedal issue was directly linked to you seeing the DPS message? I find that interesting, and possibly something I need to watch out for in the near future, since our mileage is around the same.

Thanks for the post, and welcome to the forums.
