There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Had a dead battery that threw a check engine light & Code U0155!! How do I clear the light? Do I need BUDS?

Ok, like I said above, friend had a dead battery that threw a check engine light, then changed out the battery with a brand new fully charged battery, and was hoping the light would go out, but it didn't! The bike sat all night with no battery because I had the new battery on the bench charging, I installed it, and started the bike up and the light didn't go out. So I am at his house without my riding gear, so I rode it down to my house to get my gear, thinking maybe if I took it out and rode it a few miles it would go out! When I turned into my driveway it threw a VSC and a limp home! I shut it off and restarted it that went out but the check engine was still on! I am getting my gear on and taking it for a ride, then check for codes! My question to the group is other than unhooking the battery am I going to have to find BUDS to reset the light? Thank you in advance!!!!

Ok, took it out for a 10-mile loop, it seemed to run fine, got back to the house, looked for codes and got a U0155, but it's still got the check engine light on! I got the keys out of it and I'm going to let it rest for an hour and see if that will help?! Anyone got anything else to try?

You should probably do a search on that code (do enter that code in the Search field, then also check the 'Search titles only' box tho!) and have a bit of a read of some of the other threads on this, but the thread below might be of help:

Some of the other threads won't make you feel too optimistic, so Good Luck! (y)

Try disconnecting the battery. Then hold the positive and negative leads of the bike together for a few minutes. Wait a while and then connect the battery again, +ve terminal first.

You could also look to see where the -ve lead goes from the battery to the chassis or engine grounding point. Take that off, clean it up and put it back, making sure it is good and tight and making good contact. Tight battery terminals and the bike's ground are important.

After that, if that doesn't help, scan the threads for U0155 and see what others did to solve the problem.

You don't say what year your friend's Spyder is so some of the answers may not apply of course to his engine type or model year. The other thing to ensure is that the battery is the correct type, a 350 CCA not a 220 CCA specification. Just because the new battery fits doesn't mean it can sustain enough amps whilst starting, causing various modules not to startup correctly.

You might want a multimeter and ensure there is enough voltage with ignition off, on, and on with engine running. You don't want to be down under 12 volts at any stage, preferably higher. You should be way up in the 13's with the engine running.

These things are electronically quite sophisticated with their CANBus systems, so they require a decent battery to support a working voltage under high current draw.

I think a Yuasa USA brand is the OEM fitment on mine and that seems to be a decent battery. New batteries are not always good, especially import brands without recognized brand names.

Hey Mikey. I suspect your VSS and Limp Mode as you turned into your house may have been you riding the brake a bit. Let’s put that aside for now. U0155 is loss of CANBUS communications with the cluster. You know the drill. You’re going to have to fix the problem itself before the code and light will clear. BUDS or disconnecting the battery does not help that. The fault is re-activating every time you turn on the key.

Find out a little history about how the battery may have gone dead in the first place. Any Mods? Wiring changes or damage! Plus, did the owner try to jump start it? TEST all of the fuses. I’m confident that you know how to activate and charge a battery. Probably not that. Remember that on the 2024 machines, that code also occurred because of the initial rollout of Apple Car Play before the software updates activated it. You don’t say year and model, nor how long it’s just been sitting around unused. Was this a garage queen for 2 years?
