Had to wear Gloves for Can Am riding course - Do you wear gloves? Why? Or why not?

Had to wear gloves for Can-Am training class. Now I'm riding since I got my license, and I'm not enjoying wearing gloves. Do you wear them?

Yes/No?

Why you do? Or why you don’t?

Thanks,

no, just never liked wearing them and more comfortable with out, do wear them only when its cold but always wear a helmet all the time.

Yes. Helps with the heat and road debris, bugs, rocks, or if you go flying off!
This is what I wear most of the time, until it gets cold/rainy anyway!

Wear deerskin gauntlet gloves in the dry, weatherproof gloves in the wet. Been hit in the hands by rocks too many times to not wear gloves.

I've worn gloves since I started riding in 1980. I wear the appropriate ones for the season, but always have my hands covered. I feel almost naked without them! :yikes:

Always. At one time I rode without gloves and a helmet. Even rode in shorts and a tank top. Those days are long gone. Feels weird not wearing gloves.

I have deer skin gloves .... Thermal lined for the cold .... or un-lined for warm weather ..... Mike

I own several sets of gloves to cover all seasons. Enduro gloves are my prefered for Spring Summer and Autumn. They work well with heated hand grips and touch screens. Never ride without them. ATGATT

Occasionally, but definitely during colder/wet weather. Had an unexpected unfortunate & extra fast sunburn on another bike (Yamaha Roadstar) - the mirrors reflected the sun onto the back of my hands for a double effect. Occurred in a mere 20min or less ride, after that, ya, I found lightweight “summer gloves”; spray on sunblock; & a clearance priced long sleeve Under Armor shirt to carry around.

Yes. Debris, sunburn and possibility of crash injury. I have a set of lightweight gauntlets (helps prevent a gap between glove and sleeve for sunburn), lightweight Kevlar gloves if it's just too hot for the gauntlets, Lee Parks Designs gloves for cooler weather and Alpinestars waterproof gauntlets for rain. The trunk of my F3 usually looks like a glove store!

Wear gloves all of the time and it has paid off twice in the last 3 years when I have been ejected from the Spyder.

The first time it was less than a mile away from my house, when I was run off the road by a cage, so don't think you don't need them for a "short trip" to the store.

2nd time I was stopped at a light and ejected from the Spyder when I was rear ended. I had actually debated about wearing my gear that day because it was such a nice day, and I wanted to feel that last ocean breeze for the year as I rode down the coast.

I never made it to the coastal highway that day, and I was glad that I was wearing my gear when that happened.

Yup.

I use those Mechanix gloves that're light. When it's colder, I use padded gauntlet-style gloves. Besides providing an extra layer of protection, I mainly use them to avoid being sunburned

Been riding with gloves for as long as I can remember. I feel naked without them.

IMHO, you'd be a fool not wearing them.

Always wore them when riding. Summertime rode with nose pickers. I liked unlined dear skins in colder weather. Dear skins are unbelievably warm even without linings. But then I had, and used, grip heaters. I always had a hard time with lined gloves due to their bulk. But, there were times when I was happy that I had my snow skiing gloves with me. Large gauntlet cold weather gloves are best.....

YES! I wear gloves all the time whenever I'm riding! The nerve damage, skin grafts, and long-term pain that's a serious likelihood if you ever come off without them is REALLY a WHOLE LOT less enjoyable than the minor discomfort of wearing them... nojoke

And that's BEFORE you even consider the pain... no, the EXCRUCIATING AGONY involved when the medics hafta use what is effectively a cheese grater to abrade whatever little bits of raw skin are left on your hands & fingers 3 or 4 times a day just to try and get all the fine bits of dirt and gravel out; cos when you hit the deck, odds are you'll stick your hands out reflexively, and then you'll get all sorts of dirt, gravel, and crap like that forcibly ground into and thru your skin; and all that crap hasta come out before they can even THINK about trying to repair things!! If you're lucky, they'll keep you in an induced coma for that, but then again, if it's just your hands, the risks involved in keeping you under for a month or so are probably worse than the agony they'll be forcing upon you to clean up the mess you chose to risk; but there again, it probably won't hurt THEM all that much! :sour: . Oh, and don't forget all the antibiotics you'll hafta take for months afterwards cos every single bit of that really fine dirt & gravel etc that was ground deep into and thru your skin carried at least a million microbes pretty much directly into your bloodstream as you slid your bare hands along the roadway; and now every single microbe of that is in there somewhere trying its damnedest to kill you as soon as it possibly can!! :yikes:

Have you ever wondered how much of a bother it'd be not to be able to use your fingertips to operate your phone or a touch screen?? Or how painful it might be to even try to type cos your hands haven't really recovered from you ripping the skin off them when you hit the deck hands first, even tho it was only at 10mph!! Or maybe just how bad it could be not to be able to feel that the cup of coffee you just picked up actually was too hot to hold, and now not only don't you have any fingerprints left again, but the blisters on your fingers & in the palms of your hands are really gonna make riding and a whole lot of other everyday things pretty damned uncomfortable, if not impossible for the next 8 weeks or so!! Your partner does love you enough to do all those personal things that you just won't be able to until your hands heal, don't they??

That is, IF the skin actually ever heals, cos once it's been damaged like that, if you damage it badly again (even just by picking up a cup of hot coffee!) it just might never heal anymore; or maybe you'll be lucky, and only need (another??) skin graft to fix it - but if it is secondary damage from something like a too hot cup of coffee &/or it's not the first time you've destroyed that patch of skin, that'll be IF they can find anywhere to take new skin from, cos if they've already harvested skin from the 'usual' places, there might not be too many spots left that aren't already scarred beyond further use; or the scarring where they fixed it last time might just be too bad to even try another graft!! :gaah:

So YES! I wear gloves all the time whenever I'm riding! The nerve damage, skin grafts, and long-term pain that's a serious likelihood if you ever come off without them is REALLY a WHOLE LOT less enjoyable than the minor discomfort of wearing them... nojoke

You get one guess what part of the body you hold out to break your fall on a roadway when you come off.

You also get one guess how many people that came off, had that in their plan of the day.

I have a multitude of gloves, over a dozen pair of all types. Sometimes I wear them and sometimes I don't..
