Had to wear Gloves for Can Am riding course - Do you wear gloves? Why? Or why not?

I generally wear just a tee-shirt and shorts in the summer months. I generally do not wear anything else until it gets colder.

Shorts?! :hun: :yikes: opcorn: Umm... weather nothing, I have had enough non stingy bugs on my visor, neck, & other exposed flesh. 1 June bug up & in a sleeve was less than pleasant for sure, especially when it got hung up in the sleeve. Ain’t NO way risk I'd that or ANYTHING up my shorts! :lecturef_smilie:

I have ridden with fingerless gloves for years on my Goldwing's during warm weather, but am looking at full finger mesh gloves so the fingers can breathe but protect my hands

Thankfully, I have avoided all of those things so far. I have been riding for about 5 years now.

I have a pair of gloves from Knox Motorcycle Clothing in the UK & theirs come with hard plastic pads on the base of the palm to prevent injury during slides. I'll let you guess where the pads are located....

I only wear gloves in the fall and possibly early spring when it's still cool. Other than that, I don't wear them.

As someone who dropped his 2 wheeler on a sandy curve, I realized how much the gloves I had on helped me. My hands were fine but my knees, not so much. But I have to say for the few times I was riding in a driving rain, riding without gloves would have been better. Because wearing wet gloves with the rain passes is horrible.

Yes, cause if you hit the tar for any reason its going to make a mess of your hands. Gloves will at least help

Every time. Fingerless gloves when it is warm. Would feel naked without them. They do give protection against bugs and kicked up pebbles.

You wear gloves to protect our palms from getting scraped up if we hit the ground. Think about it, you are reaching forward!

Most motorcycle classes require full fingered gloves.

I wear them all the time. I have different weight gloves for changes in the weather, some heated (don't need much anymore with heated grips), some gore tex. I am ATGATT guy, saved my life once.

After 300,000 miles in 15 years in all kinds of weather on 4 different types of motorcycles the gloves have saved my hands many times from rocks, big insects, birds, and even going down. Yes, even on the Spyder I wear full fingered gloves, rocks still hit my hands, though not as often as on 2 wheels.

I bought a pair of Spyder gloves from Costco, and I love them. I only wear them once in a while, tho.

I have been in the MC business since the earliest 70's in a very highest quality major M/C dealership, good quality appropriate gauntlet gloves plus a hi quality helmet are de rigueur.........Look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls ....... :shocked:

That bit's not quite valid, cos fingerless gloves DO protect the palms & major muscle/nerve sections of your hands, which are the critical parts of your hands that generally hit the ground first & hardest; so they're much better than wearing nothing!! They're sorta like those 'half-helmets' or 'basin helmets' that quite a few riders wear instead of a full-face helmet; or the 'lo-cut motorcycle shoes' that some wear instead of ankle & torsion protecting hyper-extension limiting boots!

Sure, they don't protect anywhere near as much or as well as full-fingered motorcycle gloves, full-face helmets, or proper ankle/torsion/extension protecting boots; but if wearing them means that riders wear some protective gear instead of none at all, then in the unfortunate event that the worst happens, they've still got some chance of recovering from a prang and still being able to live a relatively independent life afterwards! Without them, those chances plummet!
