• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can somebody tell me the part number of the Stock headlights on my 2012 rt? I'm looking to replace the stock lights with something like the SilverStar bright whites? I don't think I need LEDs at this time, Thanks

LED'S VS. HALOGEN

Well actually you do need LED's ....... any Spyder with the 998 series engine ( like yours ) has a Magneto charging system :banghead::banghead::banghead: ....... which is the main reason the RT's MUST be kept on a Maintainer !!!! ..... The Halogen bulb draws about 4 X's the power that the LED does and very often this comes from the Battery not the charging system ........ LED headlights are not much more than SilverStar's and the LED's will live longer than your Spyder ............... Mike

I know this is about an RT but I have a 2012 RS and an looking to replace the headlights with the XENON LED Headlights and was going to ask the very same question. I just ordered a set for my RS $109.50 they look like they are plug and play if the add is correct. I will have to have the shop install them the last time I changed a headlight it cost me a $1000 Bucks the head light came out and arced across the Bucked
shorted out the voltage regulator and melted the headlight bucket so it's to the Shop. :yikes: good luck jtpollock

LED's

I just ordered the LED kit from LAMONSTER for my '16 RT-S. $149. They don't look TOO difficult to install. I hear the left fog light can be a bear...

Look for a 9005 bulb in the parts store or online. If you prefer you can look for the base type and that is a HB3.

Note to others this is for a RT only. Other models take a different bulb.

I like this headlight article BEST...

When you say "The Best" do you really mean it or are you really asking what is among a sea of cheap imitation the best of the crap out there????

Because if you want the best then you would buy the genuine product made by Philips which is the 12953BWX2 series type that run from $250 to $300 and they are made in Japan. They are bar coded and can be verified in Philips website as the real deal. Anybody here claiming they have the best are taking you for a ride. You'll find plenty of cheap imitations on ebay running from $18 to $45 with the Philips logo and they are all 100% FAKE and violation of copy right infringement. Philips has already sued several Chinese factories over this.

Most people are naive and don't take the time to properly research what's being sold as snake oil. There are differences in quality among cheap imitations but the bottom line is that they are ALL made in China with very little quality assurance. What you pay someone $100 for a pair of LED headlight bulbs will have the same quality assurance as the $40 one you bought on ebay straight from China.

Now if you really were interested in maximizing the potential of your headlight power you would start with the obvious, who made the headlight enclosure/assembly and that would be Hella. The assembly was made for a halogen bulb which projects light 360 degrees so right off the bat you have reduce your lighting power by using an LED bulb. An HID bulb would be a better candidate because it projects light at 360 degrees and with a higher color temperature. The HID covers ALL of the headlight reflectors and projects the light correctly. My old 95 Prius which I sold several years back is still has the original HID bulbs with the original ballast and still kicking. I can't say the same for any LED kit I have bought.

Look at the new Ducatis and BMW bikes that have LED headlights and you'll see the difference in the assembly. You certainly wouldn't put a halogen bulb no matter the price on the bike with LED reflectors would you???

I have to agree with Mike on this one... The LED bulbs draw a lot less power. The 998s have an "adequate" charging system; not an excellent one. Saving some power while getting much better illumination down the road is a win-win situation!

While your Spyder has the traditional motorcycle style stator/magneto, there is nothing wrong with that system. It just is not capable of equaling the electrical output of the automotive style alternator. As I recall the stator output is 650 watts, which is plenty except for the most greedy electrical needs. This system works by pushing the electrical output into the battery, which serves as a buffer so that the output doesn't vary with the engine's RPM's. However, the electricity does originate at the stator, so you have a total of 650 watts.

Now having written that, LED bulb do draw significantly less than the halogen bulbs, but their brightness is less. A lot of confusion is in how the brightness is measured, but generally speaking the brightest LED's bulbs will approximate a 35w halogen bulb.

Do you want to know something funny?
Mike and I actually agree, more than we disagree! :D
It's just that when he's wrong about something:roflblack:: it usually becomes EPIC!!! :joke::joke::joke::joke::joke:
