There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Helmet air conditioner needed...

I've been in the north Georgia for the past few days. Hot,
d:cus: hot... on the 15th 104 near macon and 102 on the 16th. Only God knows what it will be today. Brains are slow roasting in a full helmet, half helmet and I won't ride without a helmet. That's the law I enacted for myself many years ago. What we need is the brains to get together and design a helmet cooler. I have some ideas but need some thermal dynamics information. Haven't found it yet but I'm looking. A little skull type cap and one dual tube connector which could be right beside your intercom connector. Ken krb1945

Pump a little refrigerant thru there it could give a whole new meaning to the term brain freeze.

If the humidity is low that works real good but around here the humidity is in the 80 percent range.

The system I'm thinking of could also have a vest to wear under a windbreaker.

I believe it could be accomplished without connecting to the 12V system. Ken krb1945

Ken,

Check out this thread, and especially look at post number 38.

Their is a video clip where the guy is demonstrating a product called LDComfort. They have what he calls a Lawrence of Arabia Hat for keeping your head cool. A few people said they were going to try one of those, but I haven't heard any reports yet. This may be just the ticket you are looking for.

Cooling

Here is one idea you may be able to use.
I have used these under a racing suit in race cars and they work great.
They are kinda big but it could easily be modified with a smaller cooler
Or you could get just the shirt and make your own
They use a 12v. bilge pump, small cooler for ice and water and some hoses in to attach to shirt.
Kind of cumbersome though

Shouldn't be too hard to tap into the tubing and run smaller tubing up to the helmet.....

That's why I only use a cage with full air conditioning (and windshield wipers) when traveling in your part of the world. Between your humidity, weather, & bugs, I don't see how anyone rides in the East... :yikes:

check out #59 also. I tried them out and at least for AZ where the humidity is in the single digits, they work great. Not sure how they will function in humid areas. You can invest $16 and try it... or wait till August and we hit our rainy season and I'll update.

Yeah, 90+ degrees it is tough to gear up. I have a full-face and wondering if the open-face with a visor would be cooler enough to make a difference worth the expense of another helmet. Comments?

Great thread. When I moved back to the deep south I wondered why so many were riding without helmets. I have since learned the answer to that question.

I'm checking the links members have posted. Folks have a great weekend. Ride 'em safely and have a good time. Ken krb1945

Air conditioning

Well, at work the air conditioning was out, so everyone started bringing in fans but it wasn't really helping. It just blew around the hot air. I bought a personal air conditioner. Basically it uses a sponge and water and a small fan...it works. With a helmet you don't want too many hard parts in there for your head to get hurt on in case you do crash. I've seen helmets with fans in the vents somewhere, maybe you could add to it using a similar thing as the personal air conditioner? :dontknow: I was also thinking of this and have these small gel like things that you freeze and they keep things cool. I haven't used them yet, but apparently it lasts for a good deal of time and to recharge it so to speak you throw it in ice water (perhaps when you stop for lunch and a drink or something). I'm not sure how to put that in the helmet though.

In racing, what we use is a simpson helmet with a parker pumper. Might be to heavy for most though.

The helmet liners work in the higher humidity too. You just have to use more air. The inside of the liner is dry even when the outside gets wet.
Enjoy!

I bought the helmet liner but have not had a chance to try it with the Spyder. I did wear it out on the boat drift fishing. 90 deg, 15 mph wind and it got too cool to wear under a hat. I was amazed when I took it off that the inside was dry as a bone, but the outside was still wet. Maybe this weekend.

Check out an item called veskimo

I have the Vekimo for my RT. It works very well. It won't help your helmet, but the water cooled vert i great in hot weather, and is not affected by the humidity at all. Other than looking like an astronaut I have no complaints

Their website is simply www.veskimo.com

i cant sweat so it is hard for me to stay cool, i mix say 1 part alcohol to 3 parts water it stays cod longer and docent get as hard like ice. i put some in some small ziploc bags and put in helmet. even after it melted it still allowed the water to absorb the heat. it lasted like 2 hours. cheap and effective.:2thumbs:
