How many of you carry a laptop and BUDS2 with you on long trips just in case of faults?

Like myself, many of you have probably had to purchase the BUDS2 diag. kit for one reason or another. Mine was to reset the SAS after installing the steering update kit to eliminate the funky LH turn handling, but the reasons are probably endless.

In that regard, how many of you carry a laptop (plus the BUDS2 stuff) with you on long trips to identify the reason/fault for the machine going into LIMP mode… and hopefully correct it while out in the middle of nowhere? Or, at least cancel or null out the fault so that you can continue on to get back to civilization?

I think it would be of limited use. While you can clear non-recurring faults from the history, and may be able to clear a fault with the machine off, if the root cause has not been fixed the fault is just going to recur. I suppose it would be useful if you have an intermittent fault causing limp mode.

BTW yours was the same reason that I got BUDS. A dealer failed to fix or even acknowledge that problem.

I carry a small (iPad sized) windows 11 computer and the BUDS interface, along with a smattering of hand tools. I haven’t needed it yet while on a trip, but I’d rather have it with me just in case. At least I would be able to identify a problem and hopefully provide at least a temporary fix.

Nope, though in the early years of ownership I thought it would be a need for my 17 RTL. Then at around 10-15000km mark, I switched dealerships and access to one of the few BRP master techs. Now 90000km+ I am yet to have a problem
