• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Infant helmet

I have a 1 year old son that I would like to take on the spyder, I haven't been able to find a helmet for him. I would like a full face. I have a friend that brings his daughter on his harley and is attached to him with some sorta harness. I'm gonna find out what it is and order it if I can get the li'll man a brain bucket.

I'd wait a few years, that can be a lot of strain on that little babies neck...is the soft spot on the head even solid yet?

Sorry - but trying to put a kid that young on any motorcycle is NUTS.

Tell your wife to beat you with a wet noodle!;)

He's walking so I figured that he'd be ok. Its just around town doing errands. He loves sitting on the toys quad, jetski, spyder. He has his own toys and does just fine.

I'm a little nervous with my 8 year old on the back.

I'm sorry but no way would I feel comfortable with a 1 year old on it.

There IS a company that makes a child passenger motorcycle harness...

http://www.childridingbelt.com/

...HOWEVER...I would strongly discourage you from taking a one-year old out on your motorcycle. The strain on the child's neck from a helmet would simply be too much. A child's spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash, or abrupt braking situation, but the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and your baby is gone forever. This is why rear-facing child seats are required in most States until a child is 2-3 years old. And most States have an age requirement of 5-6 years old for motorcycle passengers.

I have three children: 10, 8, and 4 (my 4 year-old doesn't get to ride).

The harness that i'm talking about , the child is on the front like a snugglie. I never thought about the weight of the helmet on the neck.

I think I might have just stumbled upon the best option for giving your 1 year-old the Y-Factor riding experience you're looking for... :joke:

No,no, no, no, no, no no! Please, please don't do this!!! You cannot control traffic, and you would be crushed if anything bad happened.

Bad idea...infants/toddlers shouldn't be allowed on a bike...too dangerous all the way around...your risk/benefit is quite out of line if you think you're doing anything 'fun' or 'beneficial' for your child...

This video is about the only thing I would even consider for a little kid.

Let me ask you a question didn't we once have this conversation a few months back?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
The person who considered the same thing was reemed a new muffler, I would strongly advise against your plans to go onto the streets with your child.
Like others stated the little ones neck muscles are too weak to bare the weight of a motorcycle helmet...nojoke

Could you get a little seat to fit in the trunk :joke:

All joking aside I also think its a bad idea. 1 year old is way to young :lecturef_smilie:

there is probably a reason you cant find a helmet for a one year old.....

They shouldnt be on a motorcycle.

Just my opinion.

In the state of MI for a passenger to even be legal they have to be able to have their feet reach the passenger footpegs.

Most states have laws that prohibit the trasport of an infant or child on a motorcycle - they have tobe able to reach the foot pegs. Not only against the law - just a BAD IDEA.
