• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just had an Internet learning experience!

I learned something new from a friend yesterday about internet access. I'm in a motel with very poor wi-fi and it is usually non-existent in the evenings when the place is full. I now know that I can use my phone as an internet hot spot and get good service. Sometimes us old dogs really can learn something new...

I hope you have an unlimited data plan for your phone.

Not unlimited. I start each month with 10 GBs. Been monitoring my usage and it is very minimal. But so is my computer time.
I upgraded my phone service to include Unlimited Data when I bought my 2023 Honda Ridgeline.
It has Apple CarPlay, which uses phone data for some functions.
Now that Apple CarPlay is working on my Spyder, I'm glad I upgraded.

Beware. Most providers limit hotspot data even if you have unlimited mobile data.
I wouldn't want to get home and find I had a $3000 phone bill.

I just checked my plan, and Unlimited Data means an unlimited amount of data.

The only caveat is that when using my iPhone as a hotspot, after a certain amount of data usage via the hotspot, the speed of the data transfer is throttled until the next billing period.

I'd say that is the way most plans are set up. I've used ours a few different times when the home internet would go out and I looked into using the hotspot. Good to have a backup for sure!

I went into the phone store on Monday to get clarification on what I have and the potential for extra costs. Most plans have unlimited data... BUT the amount of high speed data is a fixed amount. When that is used up, then all you get is slow speed data until your monthly plan renews. Except in my case, I have what's called a pre-paid plan. When my high speed data is used up it just quits working. I can then call to have additional data added (for additional cost). But since I pre-pay my account, they cannot charge me for something I haven't paid for. Then the sales guy tried to get me to "upgrade" my account to get more data. Told me it would only cost me about 50 bucks monthly. Told him "no thanks", I'm happy with my 30 dollar a month plan and it's working out just fine for me... Always something new to learn.
