to put on after replacing head lights was the left mirror. It wouldn't stay on. Kept dropping off the top pin. Took it off and found the plastic retainer broken. CRAP :banghead:. Now I'll have to order a new retainer. I'm sure the shipping will be more than what the part will cost.

On the bright side roflblack the new HID headlights look great. I just won't be able to test them tonight.

I fixed the mirror myself. I ground down a steel washer to a u shape, heated it and put it in the plastic retainer. Put the mirror back on. Works great.

boy am I glad my mirrors are bolted on. Seems there should be a better way. The above solution works now it needs to be time tested...!! :2thumbs:

The RT mirrors are quite durable if they are removed and installed carefully and correctly. I have removed and reinstalled mine countless times with no problems. Unfortunately they are easy to damage if you hit to hard when trying to remove them, or hit from the wrong direction. They will break away if bumped from the front, but may break if somthing falls on them from above. It would be better if either the keyhole connector was made of metal, or if all the connectors were spring connectors. As far as those go, I prefer the BMW claw-type spring connectors better. One of these days maybe I'll "whittle" a pair of connectors out of a chunk of aluminum. It should be pretty easy to fabricate them...especially if you have a milling machine. Maybe I need to talk to a machinist friend.

I've removed mine many times too. Just may have hit it wrong this time. I'll take a picture of what I did. Rode it to church this morning and the mirror actually seems more secure. Less vibration. I like your idea Scotty. If the keyhole had a metal insert (like my fix) it would probably last. Looking at the other mirror, that piece of plastic ridge that fits in the pin groove isn't very robust.

I'm going to send a nasty e-mail to BRP. :joke:
