Lower block off plate?

I've done a lot of reading on the forums and come up with a lot of conflicting opinions about the lower block off plate from Spyderpops. Can anyone give me input on their experiences using only the lower block off plate on the 2013 RT SE5? I live in a desert area where temperatures in the summer can get to the 120s and I don't want to overheat the engine by blocking off that lower hole, but the upper hole looks big enough to allow all of the hot air to escape. Is blocking off that lower hole going to cause problems in hot temperatures or should it be fine?

Thanks for the replies in advance!

block off

as long as you only use the one plate you should have no problems but you will feel the heat out of the top hole on your leg

That part was designed for pre 2013. It requires removing the lower panel underneath the radiator. Problem is ours are not removable. To use it properly requires butchering the swoop plate something I have hesitated to do. Keep using the search to find pics of those that have. It looks ugly to me and is not reversible.

on my 2011rts I use both block-off plates plus I have cut a lg hole in the swoop plus the bottom plastic pan I have put several holes in for the air to escape,i have had no problems and temps here in txs have reached the 100's+

I was aware of that but I just wanted to put it out that I did open that swoop and it made some difference in where the heat went..I wish him all the best in whatever he desides to do.

Got it!
Didn't mean to jump "heavy"; I just was hoping to let them concentrate on the specifics of that year... :opps:

Thanks folks. Still interested in hearing more peoples experiences with the lower block off plate if possible.

Not sure what you mean... Do you mean the plate itself was made for pre-2013 models and has been re-made to fit the 2013? The plate I bought was made specifically for the 2013 RT, or so the product advertisement says. I don't know yet if the fit will be an issue.

I have all the 'covers' from Spyderpops, the bottom right block off solid, and the top two stainless steel screens for my '12 RT Ltd SE5...absolutely no issues with higher temp on the engine but definitely lower temps on the right foot... I did remove the bottom 'plate' under he right side too.

No the swoop is different and has no removable plate at the bottom like previous years which means butchering it to open it up.

Oh I see now. That's a bummer. I don't plan on cutting into my new Spyder anytime soon but I understand that since I'm restricting air flow by blocking the lower vent that air needs to escape somewhere else. I'm hoping the large upper vent will be big enough to accommodate the extra heat that needs to escape. :sour:

Lower block off was the first thing I did without changing the swoop or removing lower plastic. It was a decent improvement in heat reduction on foot and did not impact the cooling system at all. I went on to do a bunch more as I live in a sub tropical climate.
Look at it another way..It's cheap and easy to do and you can remove it if you don't like it. Experiment.

I did this instead. I live in Redlands, only about 50 miles or so from you. This works for me:

I have Seal DLX Floorboards if you look at them they have a front foot rest that deflects some(if not most) of the heat from the lower hole. The only time I have issues is stop and go and the floor board allows me to move my feet back under the passenger boards. I highly suggest them  If I only had the pegs I would be burning.

on my 2013 RT, i used only the upper block off plate and cut some round (1 1/2 ") holes in the bottom swoop and it allows air to release under the bike instead of on to your feet. Be careful not to hit any vital areas and make at least 3 Holes for a good air flow andyou will be happy.
