No indication of P on the dash but the Park Brake is set & the Brake Not Set Warning beeps - any suggestions?

I have a 2019 Ryker 900 ACE which I have not ridden in two years for various reasons. Put a New battery in yesterday and it started right up, much to my surprise. It has been stalling, but I am going to put new gas in it and some injector cleaner.

Interestingly, when I engage the Park Brake, the "P" on the dash indicator does not light up. The Park Brake does seem to engage tho. Also, when I shut the Ryker down, after the orange lights go out but the numbers are still readable, the bike beeps constantly and the Exclamation Indicator in the red circle blinks until the power goes out completely. Then the beeping stops. There are no Check Engine Lights or Error Codes.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

I don't know about the 2019 Ryker but the 2024 RTL has a switch mounted on the parking brake motor that tells the bike if the brake is set. That is where I would start looking. Follow the parking brake cable back up to the motor.

Thank you. It appears I am going to have to remove a serious amount of plastic. I'm pretty handy but have absolutely no experience diving into the internals of the Ryker. Onward and thank you.

I know this question concerns a Ryker, but my Spyder F3 exhibits the same warning light & beeping behavior for about 20 seconds if I turn the ignition off without setting the parking brake. I would suggest BRP might use the same approach on both bikes.

So, it sounds to me the sensor and/or the sensor circuit that confirms if the brake is on or off might be the culprit.

I agree. I did a cursory exam of the parking brake. It is hidden in the left side of the body plastic. I can see the mechanical rod attached to the lever which engages the brake but I am unable to see any electric switches or sensor associated with the parking brake. Not looking forward to diving in.

You are correct. The Ryker is not sensing that the parking brake is set.

Onward

As I continue my renewed interest in my Ryker, it is also stalling after running for 5 minutes or so. Then it will not turn over. If I leave it alone for an hour or so it will turn over again.

The electronics on the new machines seem to be vexing me. I'm more of a 1994 Honda Shadow rider.

Thank you

You need a new battery for one thing, then see what falls out of the weeds after that!! The brake thing seems to me that there is a microswitch somewhere on that linkage that is stuck or not making contact if you find the switch, maybe a good cleaning with contact cleaner and a shot of WD40 would help you on that! The best thing you could do for your ride is to get on the darn thing and ride it or let someone else ride it!!! Good luck!

Thank you. New battery installed two days ago. If and when I can find the micro switch I will clean it.

I agree. Letting it sit is the worst. So far I have been unable to see any signs of electronics associated with the parking brake mechanism. I am hesitant to get into raising the entire shell but that may be what is necessary.

Thank you to everyone for the advice. Onward!!
