• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Off-road spyder "Adventure"?

Hi all, I have recently joined the magic world of spyder ryders, this is really awesome. I'm also an ATV fan, and a bit of rougher terrain capability on the spyder seems an attractive prospect. Would anyone of you think a semi off-road version of the spyder (think BMW GS1200 Adventure kind of style, with higher take-off clearance, crashbars, higher and beefier suspension, on/offroad tyres, etc) is feasible?

I think not. Stick with the ATV's. I've been riding ATV's both on and off road for years but they just weren't fast enough for me, so I got the Spyder. Both different animals for a reason, keep them that way I say.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate.
I dont mean a total offroad design to match the capabilities of an ATV, but just something that will handle dirt roads a bit better, and that would include the option to disable the ABS, traction control and VSS systems (again, compare the idea to bikes like the BMW GS'es and the Honda TransAlp) - after all, I am in South Africa, and though we have lots of tar, including great mountain passes with lots of twisties, we also have quite a bit of dirt roads and tracks here, with such beautiful scenery, they absolutely invite exploring. Towing an ATV on a trailer is good for limited exploring from a base camp, but with a multi-purpose spyder one could go nearly anywhere, be it on tar or dirt roads, including neighbouring Namibia, which is a paradise for GS bikers.
Still, the :spyder: is a magic machine, I just love it, a singular joy!! :2thumbs:
This off-road "experiment" would be something in addition, not a replacement for the ultimate road runner. So dont totally shoot down the idea just yet!

If you look at my profile photo you will see my answer for an off-road trike configured like the Spyder. By doing this Yamaha TW200 conversion I got a street legal ATC in California (& National Parks) where ATV's cannot be made street legal. It is a lot of fun in the dirt but can only do about 55mph on the highway. If you search back through my postings on this forum you can find things I've said about my TWTrikes & some photos.

In fact I built two of these before the Spyder came along. When I read about the Spyder I was in the process of designing a third one that would be strictly for, higher speed, paved highway riding. I dropped that plan as soon as I learned about Can Am's plan to introduce the Spyder. I'm in the original owners group and enjoying both trikes. Each special for its main riding purpose.
