I did my first "at home" oil change on my RT today. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. In fact, compared to my Harley Ultra Classic, it was much less messy and no more work. A couple of things I could not bring myself to do, however, was to torque the filter bolts to 97 in lbs or the drain plugs to 20 ft lbs. 97 in lbs for the filter bolts seems really excessive. I went to 80 in lbs and that plenty. In my opinion, the drain plugs would be excessively tight if torqued to 20 ft lbs. For the actual torques, I used pro grade torque wrenches, both beam and clicker. The drain plugs were torqued using my calibrated fingers after determining that I didn't want to tighten them to 20 ft lbs.
The fun came when I took the seal off of the gallon bottle of oil. When I picked it up, the jug must have oil canned and oil went out of the top and all over the place. Big mess but, at least the garage floor is well protected from rust now.
