• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Olympics in Rio

I haven't been paying much attention to the upcoming Olympics to be held in Rio this summer, except the dangers from the zika virus. Our pastor and his wife are going on a mission trip there during that time. Someone sent me this link about a structure being built for the event and it looks fascinating.

Has anyone else heard about this, or is it someone's blue-sky idea. If it's real, it would be great to see.

Would be nice.....

But it is still a proposal and nowhere near a reality... times running ou tof it is to be for the Olympics....:dontknow: but is a sight to see.....

I checked out the Solar City Tower in Snopes. It is a concept and has not been built yet, which basically means it won't be ready for the Olympics.

I have been to Brazil and it is a very nice country to visit, but with the virus just waiting to spread, I wouldn't go there now.nojoke

Didn't the same sort of 'doom & gloom' predictions happen about the Beijing Olympics & their smog? And what about that really 'difficult to build' arena 'Bird's Nest' thingy they put up that was never gonna make it in time; but then did get finished & is now such an icon?? Haven't every modern Olympics had some pretty speccy proposals put up that never saw reality? Doesn't every Olympics see some project that's 'essential' run behind schedule but in the end just scrape it in, finished in time?? In fact, try typing 'controversial Olympics' 'Olympic games scandal' or 'Olympic controversy' into google & see what you get back, I don't think there's one that doesn't get some sort of mention somewhere in there.....

Seems to me that the media grabs at every opportunity to 'create' a story even if there isn't one; and we all know that 'impending catastrophe' sells far more advert carrying airtime than anything else (not that the Zika virus isn't something to take precautions about tho!!) The point is, the media is ALWAYS going to make anything seem far worse than the reality - heck, we see it here, anyone reading this Forum would think ALL Spyders have problems, but the reality is that MOST DON'T, but here is where almost everyone comes to ask about how to fix their particular concern & some come just to beat up their particular concern of the moment!!

If you want to live your life in constant fear & never go anywhere/do anything, then trust/believe as absolutely true everything you see/hear on the media or internet! But the reality is that life itself is a sexually transmitted & unfailingly terminal disease that no-one ever gets out of alive; so sure, be a little careful & take sensible precautions, but don't let a little risk or a media beat-up stop you from doing something that you really want to do - life is too short to live in that sort of induced misery, isn't it?? (Even if the media/internet tells you so?!)

Ride More, Worry Less!

I'm sure that they'll have warning signs out, to let everybody know what's going on...

Peter, I like these signs I saw in Daintree....

They are good aren't they?!? That one took some wit with a quick pen. ;)

But you shoulda gone further north, it's not too much further (no more'n a max of about 1000km anyway!) that you start seeing the Buffalo crossing signs, then Elephants, Tyrannosaurus', Crocodiles, etc; and after them you hit the multitude & never to be repeated 'Dip' series!! There are only about a thousand 'dip' warnings on the Peninsula Development Road & the road/track continuing on up to Cape York that've been converted to a series of 'different' dips - skinny dip, chocolate dip, slippery dip, and the like!! As I said, it took some wit with a quick pen, or maybe a whole carton of pens!!
