• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Pushing the Spyder

I find myself moving my spyder in and around in the garage in several differant places, pushing it out in the driveway, pushing it back in etc.

My question is:

Do you think its hard on the steering (DPS) by pushing it around with-out starting it up? I just see no need to start it up and move it the little bit that I'm moving it...

What do you think?

Sorry no expert- but that shouldn't be a problem. You *might* get a fault code on your :spyder2: related to gear position sensor or something like that but once it is in gear it should be fine.

I'd say pushing it around a little here and there in neutral is safer than firing it up, moving it 5 feet and shutting it down. :dontknow: At least that way you're not fouling plugs all the time.

I've been pushing both of ours around since we owned them. We push them out of the garage every day and turn them around. So far no problems at all in nearly three years (for Nancy's RS).

They push them around in the service bays at the dealer.I'm going in today to pick something up,I'll ask one of the technicians for his thoughts on it.

Joe...as long as it's in Neutrral, there isn't a problem. Pushing it in gear is a different story

No woories joe the powersteering will not be effcted in any way....if the dps is out u can pull the fues and keep riding won't hurt anything....kinda the same principla....so don't worrie about it at all, its all good!!!

Any power steering that cannot be manually pushed around is not worth buying. That would have been a deal breaker if that were the case when I bought my Spyder.

I do not see how it could hurt. Once the Spyder is moving it steers quite easily. If you just move it around on concrete you could always use wheel dollies similar to what I use for my sleds. This would be good for Spyder winter storage. I can easily move the sleds around and even push them sideways for tucking in a corner. Just a thought.

Thats kind of what I was thinking but not sure just wanted to assure myself that I was not causing any damage.. As for the Wheel Dollies, I think before the snow falls I will have a set,, well a set plus one,, I looked at them on Harbor Frieght after I read your post so the next time I get to the store I will take a harder look at them, good idea.. Thanks for all the information thus far...

Wheel dollies, my friend; this is the way to go!! If you are always movin her around that's the only way to go. It'll save your body more tha the bike! :roflblack:

I always push 14 out before starting and leaving the bat cave. I have never had an issue, and I don't suspect I will either. Nuetral is a beautiful thang!! :D

Why even bother with putting it on wheel dollies when you can just jack it up on the m/c jack and move it around that way?:dontknow:

Yet another viable technique! BTW, I very much like your avitar. I almost bought that print some years back. Were you a Tomcat driver or just an aviation nut like me? I was a hopeful to fly for the Corps but they pulled a tumor out of my head and well, that was that! :gaah: I was bitter for a long time, brother! But we move on. I still folow the industry with some interest though...

You are so good to your toys, Scotty. I turn my plants on the front porch every day so that they grow straight, tall and pretty....but had never thought about doing the same for my Spyder. I just leave it facing the same direction until I back it out of the garage. Now I feel badly knowing that you turn both yours every day :joke:.
