Rear brakes - Remove the muffler?

TRYING to do the rear brakes. Service manual says remove muffler. Can’t get one of the freaking springs off that hold it to the CAT. See the picture.

Nut came loose but the spring colar is frozen on the bolt. :banghead: Is it REALLY necessary to remove the muffler to do the rear brakes?

Suggestions?

caliper has to be removed to remove rear wheel and you dont have to remove muffler.Ive had rear wheel off twice now and havent touched muffler.Speaking of muffler looked at mine last fall and found 2 bolts out that hold the end cap on, others werent very tight

I got the spring off. It looks really tight in there with the muffler on. Did you say remove the rear wheel? That sounds like more than I am willing to do myself at this point.

I just had my rear brakes replaced, also needed a new rotor & tire as well. The shop had it all off except for the muffler, so you shouldn't have to remove it. You may want to also check the bolts that hold the muffler on, as another poster stated he was missing one or two, the tech. told me mine was very loose, & he had to tighten it and this is only after 8 months & 21,000 miles.

Sorry I can't offer more substantial advice. Teddy & I are Look'n forward to the road-trip to Lamonts on Sunday, so you better not mess this up :roflblack::p:roflblack:

Almost done, hopefully they work!

:roflblack::roflblack: Yeah I am looking forward to it also but if I do not get this done I can't go. Rear brake pads are as thin as a human hair right now.

Took a video of the Spyder running without the muffler. Sounded a LOT different!

I only mentioned that I had the wheel off, no need to remove wheel to change brake pads
