• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riding Sunglasses

Any suggestions on really nice riding sunglasses? Our helmets put pressure on the sides of our current sunglasses giving us a headache after 30 -40 minutes. We wear oakley right now.

:dontknow: I solved this one by getting a helmet with an integral sun-visor...
An HJC IS-Max.
Have you considered this option, and just save the shades for after the bucket is put away?

Dewalt DPG51-2C Radius Smoke 10 Base Curve Lens Protective Safety Glasses
I'm serious here, but love these...been riding with 'em for over 10 yrs...don't want polarized because it distorts looking through a clear visor...I purchase these by the dozen for less than the Amazon individual price of $7.30. Everyone in the family wears them and when I lose or break a pair, it's no big deal

I just go down to our local safety store and buy the same type of thing usually made by Uvex. They are usually under $ 10 and some types even come with replaceable lenses. I don't look thru a helmet faceshield so polarized or not is not a concern.

riding glasses

I use clear and darker safety glasses from Wallyworld. Have for years and I love them and they are reasonable.

An inexpensive solution: Fishing sunglasses

I have found fishing sunglasses, because of the polarization, make excellent riding sunglasses. They are also not very expensive.

I found these sunglasses at Walmat ($11 - $14) do the job: http://www.walmart.com/c/kp/polarized-fishing-sunglasses

Get a pair of Spiderwire-Fletcher Polarized Fishing Sunglasses (4 color options) because they do the job and have spider/webbing on them...

We use Nolans with the integrated drop down sun shields.

I also bought a pair of those sunglass goggles made to go over glasses and attached with an elastic band. They work, but are ugly and require removal of the helmet for on or off.

I wear prescription glasses with the changeable lenses--but that feature does not work inside a helmet.

This is what I did, I wear my oaklys when it's really bright and use them together. My oakly's are a little tight too.

I'm glad to see this thread. Just had cataract surgery and won't be wearing my glasses anymore. Consequently, I'm in need of sunglasses when I ride. (I'm not gonna wear a shield). Guess I'll have to ride down to Wally World and see what they have. Thanks again for this post.

I was thinking of getting http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00310Z8YY...olid=17ZHI5DH1Q1C&coliid=I1QI4IQKVQOQYA&psc=1. The lenses get darker in the sunlight. I'd love for HJC to make a shield that does the same since I can't get the Bell with one in my size.

Can't beat the polarized Gmax integral flip down ones. Mid day I flip them down half way still clear view of the road and no glare. They can also be used alone with the clear visor up as they fit the nose all the way down. I wear regular glasses so sun glasses would be expensive for me.

I use Uvex Cybric Safety Spec's (Colour: Smoke):

  • The side arms are completely adjustable so you can make them longer or shorter and they have a double hinge adjustment part at the front which means you can get them properly adjusted after pushing them on past the helmet lining. The side arms are also quite small/narrow so I don't notice them once on.
  • Being safety glasses they fit around the eyes and so are fine for riding with the visor up or with an open face helmet. No dust etc.
  • They are anti-scratch and it seems to actually work - my original pair are 4 years old now and still going fine.
  • They do ones with an anti-fog coating, again this seems to work.
  • The 'smoked' ones that I use are good sunnies but don't cut out too much light so you can still see clearly - particular when riding though dappled shade. Personally I find the colour is good, for me many sunnies are too blue in colour and too dark as well. They do several shades including amber, mirror etc.

Only problem is that Uvex may have stopped doing these particular ones as I can't find them on the web site, the closest ones there are the Uvex iv-o Here's a pic of the ones I've got:

And here's a link to the iv-o's

You need to "spoon" the inside foam along the line that the glasses stem runs along. Simply get a spoon from the kitchen drawer, and use the rounded side to push the styrofoam in a little to allow more room for the stems. Easy Peasy.

I got a pair of Body Glove glasses at academy. I love them. They have different styles that hug your face. I actually took my helmet in with me to try on the glasses so I could see how they fit. My husband wears Oakleys. Mainly need to look for a straight, flat ear piece.
