• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:yikes: Well, Friday was a nice day, so I prepared for a ride. WILL NOT START! Maybe, A-N-O-T-H-E-R D-E-A-D B-A-T-T-E-R-Y:banghead:
If that's the problem will be the 2nd since owning the Ryker. Bikes on the charger now. If that's the issue, I think the culprit
might be my GPS :dontknow: Today is Saturday, Charger is Charging....Just wait and see. Anyone else having battery problems?
The bike was on a tender all winter, have ridden it a few times in the past three months, 50 to 100 mile trips, but without the GPS.
 
My 2008 Spyder will discharge the battery if left for 3 weeks or more. But never had an issue with the 2019 Ryker Rally.
 
Do you have ANY accessories hooked up directly to the battery, except for battery tender? DON'T. Use the accessory connection under the left top side panel.

YES....:shocked: The GPS instructions were to set it up directly to battery. Think that's it?

You can put a volt-meter in line between the power wire and the positive terminal of the battery and see if it is drawing current, and how much it is drawing. You can do the same thing by removing the + battery terminal and checking for current draw. This will tell you how much, but not what. Then start pulling fuses, one at a time, to find where the current is going.
 
Battery charged, went for a ride to my nearest DQ, that's a 35mile one way trip. I think it's the GPS causing the drain.
Gotta remember to take it off the bike after every ride. :yes:

Just turning it off won’t do?:dontknow::dontknow::popcorn: Removing just seems more chance of forgetting behind/loosing:sour:

Seems to me, the only thing it can be. Even off, it could be parasitic power draw. I seldom use it anyway. Time will tell, simple
process of elimination. I'm not sure on how to do the volt-meter check recommended by BajaRon.
 
Maybe just install an on/off switch inline with the direct battery hookup.

Goes without saying, a battery tender is a good idea for storage longer than a week or so. I always add a permanent connector to the bikes. I'm sure there's an open socket in the fuse box you can hook up to, and plenty of hidey holes to cap and stash the other end when you're not using it.
 
I for myself, never hook anything direct to the battery, that is just a recipe for disaster. Use a fuseblock, or as earlier advice, use the accesory cable, this is hot after ignition on.

Rykers don't have a key!! How does that fob work? You hook it up and it turns a relay on and powers up the bike?:dontknow:

I do leave the fob in ALL the time, maybe that's my drain ?
 
The fob has an RFID tag embedded innit. The bike's brain is matched to that tag and won't start without it. I hear it also has a super magnet that closes a relay to tell the bike it's there.

NOTE >> Don't quote me on this, but Rumor has it some '21s made it out of the factory with the RFID security disabled due to a lack of chips. These should have been recalled, but it's not a bad idea to check with your dealer to make sure.

If your GPS is the only 'extra' device &/or accessory that you've installed that's connected directly to the battery, then I'd be punting on it being the GPS too... :sour:

You could always disconnect the GPS for a few weeks & see what happens..... Or better yet, if you want to know today, just do the test BajaRon suggested, it's not all that hard if you have a multimeter that'll read 12v DC - usually the 0-20 DCV setting will work. ;)

You just hafta get your multimeter, set it to the desired range, & turn it on. Then with the Ryker's engine & ignition turned off, disconnect one of the GPS wires at the battery; connect/put one multimeter probe onto the GPS wire you just disconnected; put the other probe onto the battery terminal you just disconnected that GPS wire from - if there's any current being drawn it'll show on the multimeter reading; there should be none, so anything other than Zero is showing there's a current drain! And if it shows a drain, there's your culprit, move your GPS connection to a switched circuit & it shouldn't be a problem any more! :ohyea:

If you get a Zero when testing the GPS wiring, you can do exactly the same test the same way for the entire Ryker; only instead of connecting the multimeter in line between the GPS and the battery, you need to connect it in line between one of the battery terminals & the battery lead that you just took off that terminal; and if you see anything but a Zero on the multimeter reading when you do that, you can pull each of the fuses one at a time to see what it is that's still sucking juice! Only it's probably worth doing that test a day AFTER you last turned the Ryker's ignition on - cos if the Ryker's anything like the Spyders, there might be some ongoing power use for a (relatively) short while after shut down. :p

Tell us what results you get if you try any/either/all of these tests. :thumbup:

Show Chrome makes a plug and play fuse block for the Ryker. I use the one for my Spyder RT. Love it so far. Plenty of room for all your accessories. All my accessory lights are plugged into the 12v switch so they only come on when I have the key on. Also have 12v constant, right left turn signal, and brake slots for anything you want on when those are powered.
