Shift points on 2014 RT

I just picked up my new 2014RT-S and I am amazed at what a different bike it is compared to my 2013 RT-s. So smooth and quiet it may take some getting used to but I am really positive. My only question is "What are the RPM levels that the clutch engages on the SE-6 and what RPMs are best for shifting. I am so used to the 4500-5500 range for the 998 engine so I need some advice.

aint it just WOW. Al I shift 28-32k.....unlike my '10 I allow the '14 tranny to do the downshift..on the 998 I did 98.9% of the downshift.

Lower RPMS are normal

Only 150 miles so far but I'm shifting around 2500 to 3000 range. Slides in like butter!

I go through 1st through 5th pretty quick and cruise in 6th at 45 mph and up (EcoMode seems to like that!)

Coming from 2012 RTS, this is taking some getting used too!

From first, to second, to third: 2,000 rpm
Fourth, fifth and sixth get grabbed at about 2,500 rpm.
They have done such a great job of improving the downshifting protocals, that I almost never hit that button anymore! nojoke

question

so with the 13 you can really wind it out when you get on a parkway, now being you are now shifting at lower rpm's what speeds are you looking at, has anyone wound the engine out on a 14 to get moving onto a parkway, doe the bike feel like it has hit the rev limiter at higher rpm's. if you are shifting from 1st to 2nd between 2 and 3 k what is the speed of the bike at that time. just curious

John,
I suppose that you can, "twist it's tail", if you feel the need... :dontknow:
but the bike doesn't require it!
I did bounce off of the rev-limiter in second gear... once! :opps:
It just pulls HARD; right to redline!:ohyea::yes:

Talking with the BRP engineers at Spyderfest, the only gear that the clutch is not fully engaged is in 1st in every gear it is fully engaged from what they told me, so RPMs don't matter any more

I am also shifting between 2000 and 2500 mostly. Occasionally, run it up to 3000. Plenty of power without screaming out. I am usually way past any cars behind me.

For freeway entry, I am usually up to 6th gear before clearing the ramp, plenty of power to hit it and merge. (65 mph speeds here).

My only complaint, a lot of shifting up, but I am getting used to it after a thousand miles. Downshifting, I have been letting the :spyder2: do it.

For the next iteration, I think a CVT tranny would be the cats meow.

VERY helpful thread. Thanks to all. I've been shifting around 3500 RPM because it somehow seemed "wrong" to shift lower when using the ECO mode. I'll move it down a bit.
