Thinking about trading RT for an ST

So I have been thinking about trading in my 2012 RT for a 2013 RSS or ST. Has anyone does this and what are your thoughts? It is worth the move or should I just stay with the RT?

Why are you considering this move? :dontknow:
What is it about the RT that you're not liking?
What about the ST has drawn your attention?
(Some background might help to prime the conversational pumps a bit!)

Don't get me wrong. I love the RT. The only thing I am looking at is a sportier look. Anything can be painted so it is not color.

Wow we just jumped from a 2011 RS to a 2012 limited for the 2 up comfort:shemademe_smilie: Yes she made the decision. The move was like going from a corvette to a caddy. If you are riding single and want instant response get the RSS or ST, and add the Baja Ron sway bar and some Elka,s.:D

Sportier look on the ST--IMO: Yes. Since I am an accounting person, my thoughts are going to be from the financial point of view. Trading a 2012 for a 2013 will most likely lead to a big loss of money when it comes to trade in value. That should be a consideration in your equation. Since new 2012's currently have large discounts going on--it's going to be even worse for a trade in unit--IMO.

You are also looking at a machine that you know and are familiar with versus the 2013, which currently has some mechanical issues being discussed on a regular basis.

A hard call, but it will all depend on what you want in the end. Keep us posted.

I Was considering trading my 2012 RT for a ST BUT after All the Suspension problems , Heat Problems and the fact that most are adding aftermarket shocks and Bars anyway because the UnAdjustable suspension is Soft and a "One Size Fits All Deal" I have decided to keep my Beautiful 2012 RT (Which is only 70 Pounds heavier than the ST???)

Of course I also have the GS if that make a difference.

They are totally different looking machines. I wanted a sportier look and ride single so the RS was my choice. With my mods I couldn't be happier. I would hate to take the financial hit though.:doorag:

If it's sportier that you want ;); Does either PitBull or CowTown still offer their RT performance packages?
I've always believed that no matter how much make-up gets put on the pig; it'll never be a swan...

...But you can end up with one very attractive pig! :2thumbs:

choices, choices..!!

Best test ryde the ST and RSS and see for yourself how they ride and handle. Most of us are happy with what we have and would recommend it those that traded mostly traded up to the RT's. Your going the other way..let us know, should be interesting...:ohyea:

This is verry interesting when talking to folks that have had an RS most seem to progress to an RT for the comfort
in my case i was looking for a sporter ride that i could make my own and i have done just that with my 2012 RSS
On the other hand trading up to a 2013 for me isent even a consideration they are just still to new and i believe need to be proven,i would ride both a 12 RSS and a 13 ST and see if either interests you and after u decide which way to go than its time to break out your card and purchase the ride of your dreams.

I have the RT for the two up touring comfort. For the sportier feel, when I'm riding one up, I have the GT stripes on it (I'm sure it goes faster), Bajaron's sway bar, for a little sport on the curves, Fox shocks for an economical improvement in ride and even put on the "Rotax Powered" decals like the new one's have, these make the RT feel better I'm sure. Anyway, just ride what makes you happy. Sometimes we compromise and dress up our pigs a little.

Now don't get me wrong. I love the RT for the "Pig" that it is and I have done a lot to it to make it "mine". So I guess that the question comes to mind is if no one has gone from the RT to the ST or RS-S. Those that have had or currently has both what one do you prefer and why? I know I will be loosing storage and such but the only big trips are only once per year. I do plan on taking them for a test drive if I can find a dealer in my area that has both in stock. The 2 that I talked to today only have the RS-S. Still leaves me to wonder about the ST. And most of the time I ride one up (still working on the wife to get her own).

I was one who went from a 2008 GS SM5 to a Premier Edition, 2010 RT-S. I had the 2008 fixed up with farkles and it looked just like an ST except for the fact that I also added an additional top trunk. Was I ahead of my time? :roflblack: I have always liked touring comfort--so the switch to an RT was a "no brainer" for me. The difference in ride was like Chevy to Caddie IMO--of course. I will try to come up with a picture to add. That said: I took a big hit on the trade in. I had over $6K worth of options on the GS and did not get any of that back.

I did not have a different Spyder, but have been riding my Harley since 2003. I just bought my ST Limited the end of May. I only have 1000 miles on it, but Love it. I don't feel that it really needs any mods. (although I added fog lights and a couple of others) It handles just fine. As far as heat, all of my bikes have had heat. Mine is not unbearable. I would recommend the ST to anyone.

For the amount of $$$ you would lose on the trade you could buy a pretty nice used RSS. That way you would have both your RT and a sport version RSS. If you really want sport that is the way I would go.
