Thinking about trading RT for an ST

I traded in my 2011 RT for my ST ltd in Feb. The trade-in value sucked but I love the fit and ride on the ST. It is rare that I ride 2 up and my husband said I rode the RT like a sport bike I should have a sport bike look. But what sold me was the riding position. I do miss all the trunk space and have to think about what I need when going to the grocery, but on the 6 day trip to Maggie Valley I had everything I needed and then some. Now I have 6000 miles on my ST and love it. Test drive the ST and make sure the siding position is right for you. Hope this helps. Penny:ani29:

The only thing that prevented me from going from an RT to an ST was the storage space: I don't like the Guvi bags, and I like my backrest/truckspace. I would have gotten a good deal (nice rebate on the trade), but I also wanted to go Red... But I love my new RT!:2thumbs:

I planned on calling him today.

What I am going to have to do is sit next to both of them and really look at them close.

I'm not sure if this is a smart move or not. You being a younger guy and riding solo most of the time I can see why you're considering it.

The ST for sure is faster off the line than the RT and on the road. It has a "younger look" than the RT too but I really wanted to get some Corbin bags on mine and have the more refined look of the ST compared to my RS but the bags have yet to be produced for the ST. I think this may be the one thing that has kept me from falling in love like I thought I would. I am getting some heat issues that I didn't have with the RT and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to feel as great on a long days ride (900 mile +) as I would on the RT. For shooting around the mountains the ST is great and I do get better mileage but I do more long range riding and the RT fits the bill better for that. After seeing my RT in Maggie Valley I got to say I wish I would have kept it. I had that thing setup perfect and it rode and looked great. If you park my ST next to my old RT you can bet the RT is the one that's going to draw the crowd and the most pictures will be taken of. I do think if I had the Corbin bags on my ST that might have changed.

I think I would sleep on this one Bro. Sometimes you don't realize what you had till it's gone. If I had the extra cash I would have one of each. I would love a RSS too. :doorag:

Lamont this is why everyone has such great respect for you as well as your opinion. It's an honest opinion.

For the amount of $$$ you would lose on the trade you could buy a pretty nice used RSS. That way you would have both your RT and a sport version RSS. If you really want sport that is the way I would go.

:agree: I purchased the RT because I wanted the Comfortable ride and I got a Great deal.
I love the RT on aggressive backroads JUST as much as the GS BUT the RT is a Great cruiser also!!!
With 24,000 on my GS I decided to have both GS and RT and I,m Happy all year round Now (Rt ALL winter)!!!
If I had to pick ONE it would be a Real Hard decision I don,t think I could make unless I have to.

I say Pick up a New (Leftover) 2012 RS or RSS at a Great price with a rebate included and have both - One for the Wife!!
Each time I ride the GS and RT I fall in love with them again because there so different!

I would get a Test drive on the RS or RSS and ST before you decide? Looking at them does not solve the problem!

I agree. That's what I plan on doing. Buying a used GS/RS in a year or so for around town and keep the RT for trips.

Since all the models have the same motor this year and I have a pre 2013 rs which has more HP, I noticed a big difference in the snap of the new st and rs. Didn't like the ride, although the ego's felt good. I have been told by a good source a new motor for the rs next year, we shall see.

Ok so after talking with a few Spyder Advisors I have actually decided that I am going to stay with the RT for now. What it came down to is I don't think that I would be as happy on my long distance trips. Only a few planned for DC and Charlotte NC and the Ozarks again in April. And from what I remember the new models came out not too long after I picked up the RT in July. Wife did say I change vehicles way to often. Why she said that is beyond me. Only 4 cars in 5 years. Whats wrong with that? Anyway I am going to hold out for the 2014 models and see what they have done to them.

Your honest opinion speaks for itself. If it would help any, I can bring my RT over to your place, you can work on it a little and fix it up, I won't charge you a dime.

I have a 2012 rt that I have traveled over 20,000 miles in 14 months ..and I live in the northeast. My wife purchased a ST a month ago and I have had the privilege of riding both. The ST is sleek , nimble and alot of fun with a higher power range especially off the line. I really love driving it, its very responsive to every move. I love the comfort of my 2012 rts and my Grandson rides with me alot. Soooo if I was to go to a dealer today and have my choice of any ride... It would be another RTS. JMHO
