• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

To Brake or Not To Brake....

Would you like BRP to include a front brake lever?

  • No thank you - I'm fine with the one brake peddle

Perhaps this was addressed somewhere in the thread and I missed it.

But:

There is a real difference between a handbrake lever and a front brake lever.
A handbrake lever operates the braking system from a single point making the ABS & VSS seamless.
A front brake would royally muck things up, IMHO.

I agree, but people do use both terms for the same thing. As long as we know what we are describing it isn't so bad.

wreck

We met a guy in Sedalia that lived there that had an RS that he bought an 09, and he said he pulled into an ATM and didn't set the handbrake and the bike rolled away and suffered all this damage it had taken him almost two years to get it all fixed. one dealer did the repairs then couldn't get it started so they had to take it to another dealer in KC that finally got it running, so YES I'd like to have another option just in case!

I'd like to have one as standard equipment for a moderate increase in price. I've been riding for 50 years and would be fine with just a foot brake if the position was adjustable. I have to lift my size 13 boot from the riding position to apply the brake. I don't like that. Slows my reaction time.

Why can't the brake pedal be lower so all you have to do is push down with your toe, as it is on most motorcycles (except for cruiser styles)? Are they afraid everyone will "ride" the brake and end up with the dreaded "limp mode"? Maybe they care more about that than the potential for a crash because of slower brake application.

Do you know what can make up for a slower reaction time?
Paying better attention in the first place.
Besides; these bikes stop pretty darn well when you mash on that pedal! :2thumbs:

Short answer yes. While I am fine not having one I know several people who hate not having one.every other motorcycle has a hand brake, so from a safety stand point it makes sense to include one. Every two wheel rider I know has grabbed for air at some point on the spyder.

Bright idea !!!!!!!!!!!

If BRP would install the hand brake lever with a simple lever lock (like on snowmobiles) on all Spyders they could do away with the parking brake assembly and it would actually cost BRP less to make and will be no extra cost to the consumer.

This would also eliminate those constant RS parking brake adjustments and with the brakes gripping on all three wheels, your Spyder is not going anywhere !!!!!!!

I wonder if that would do away with that annoying brake squeal, too? Plus, it would drop a few ounces, the Spyder needs to lose weight.

You know that's not a bad idea! Though I'm not sure how it goes with having constant pressure on the hydraulic components for extended periods of time.

It would put the E-Brake in an easy access location rather than having to try and find the peddle with your foot. Some have to dismount the Spyder to work the current E-Brake.

It would eliminate one problem and give those that wanted it a hand brake option at the same time.

It's not going to fix the squeel as that is a pad issue and not a brake lever/peddle issue.

Randy!

That may even be a BETTER reason for a re-design!
You knocked it right out of the park!

Great idea! The best engineered solutions are simple and elegant. KISS Engineering...

You have to wonder, though, why BRP didn't do this in the 1st place. I'm sure it was considered and rejected.

Now we can start guessing why they decided against it! :ohyea:

If my memory serves me correctly, (it does not always) on a motor vehicle equipped with a hydraulic braking system must be equipped with a parking brake system that operates completely independent of the hydraulic system. That is according to FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard)

A big yes from me on the hand brake! And when they start putting the hand brake on there quads I might consider one of those also. But not until they learn how to make a front locker.

That answers it. That's why they can get away with it on Snowmobiles. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

Kind of funny this is almost as divisive as a helmet thread. Or Dem v GOP .. ironically red/blue are the colors on the voting results.

Too soon? :roflblack:

no need for me, but if so many of you want it, approach ISCI and get a volume discount. since you have already figured out the cost is $150.00 they should sell it to you for that. :roflblack:
