Trailer license plate bracket?

How do you folks with RT-622 trailers attach your plates?

The problem is that the holes will not match up. The screw holes on the trailer are 7 inches center-to-center and the holes on the license plate is 5 3/4 inches center-to-center. MC trailer plates are the same size as standard MC plates here.

Hopefully the folks in Little Rock are working on it supposedly.

Trailer Plate

Trailer plate in Ohio is the same size as an auto plate, not MC plate. Auto size plate fits fine:dontknow:

Michigan trailer plates are the same size as auto plates, too.

In Tennessee it is not required for motorcycles but went ahead and did it since :dontknow: when the state decides what the :spyder2: is considered. :agree: On Bootie and Scotty... trailer plates are the same size.

Hello.

Sounds like the holes are not for MC plates. I had a similar challenge with my Bushtec trailer. It had an automobile plate bracket on it. I used some dark smoked Lexan and shaped it as an auto plate and then mounted my MC plates to the Lexan. I did not feel like drilling more holes and having to seal the old ones. Since my trailer is black, it worked out really nice for me.

Isn't a trailer a trailer? Why should they classify a trailer as motorcycle or non-motorcycle?

It is the dealer's responsibility to make it fit. So, I'll let them do their job. I'm glad we have small MC tags considering the size of the trailer.

The tech at my dealership made me a bracket out of aluminum strip with the right hole placement in it. I bolted it to the trailer and then the tag to it. Gotta love my dealer.

The fellow in Little Rock called me back again last night and told me that this was honestly the first time anyone had ever mentioned the license plate issue. I told him that folks have either been having the trailer tagged as a regular trailer or were having to fabricate a bracket to make them fit. He even contacted BRP and it came to them as a surprise. The guy in Little Rock agrees with me that it is their responsibility as a dealer to put a permanent fix into place that looks professional and enhances the appearance of the trailer instead of a jury-rig. He said one of his guys had gone out and had a bracket made that would fit, but did not meet his standard of appearance to represent the company. He told me to be patient with him and he will provide me with a bracket that I will be proud of and will fit properly. Plus, they will not let this one slip by again with any trailer sold by any of their dealerships. I do not know if BRP will do the same thing or not.

I find it hard to believe that nobody in Canada or the USA had ever brought this up with a dealer in the state or province that has a MC size tag for their trailer. I guess ignorance is bliss. :dontknow:

It just goes with my belief that not taking care of the little things means the big things are often ignored or overlooked until a consumer steps up and forces the issue.

Mississippi has the small tags also. While at Spyderfest, I acquired the flag holders from ISCI and after thinking about it, I decided to mount the flags on the trailer instead of the bike itself. That simplified hiding things a bit. Here is how it turned out:

Sorry about the large size, haven't learned how to re size.

Did the same thing. I have a set on the Spyder and a set on the trailer. What can I say, I'm patriotic.

Trailer plates

No trailer plate required in Oregon….

Wyoming is much different-they like to make things hard for folks. The weight of the trailer determines the size of the plate. Since the CanAm trailer is only 250 lbs we get a small MC plate- it doesn’t fit the trailer. To remedy this I took an old plate, primed and painted it and drilled holes to line up with the MC plate. Looks OK and is functional.

Same as many other, in Quebec trailer plate size is the same as car plate. The Rt-622 can be tow by car or light truck.

Yep, two ways to skin this cat.

1. Take a piece of metal (or an old plate) the size of an auto plate, and drill holes for both. Bolt the small plate to the large one and the large one to the trailer. You can make it out of aluminum and polish it or engine-turn it if you want to get fancy. Surprised nobody sells such an adapter commercially.

2. Take a piece of steel or aluminum strap at least 1/8" thick, drill holes to attach to the trailer, then drill and tap holes to attach the small plate. thread in some screws and bolt on the small plate. I'd suggest using license plate screws from the backside, screwed into the strap, then hang the small plate using acorn nuts on the studs (screws) from the outside.
