Turn signals not turning off on their own

My turn signals recently stopped turning themselves off after I make a turn. They will shut off after the 30 second time out, but not after the turn is complete. I recently installed the Spyderpops bumpskid with LED's. The LED's are wired into the right side fender lights per the instructions. Not sure if this would cause an issue or not, but figured it was worth mentioning so the people on here have the relevant info about my bike. The only other thing I can think of, my bike was just in for the 3,000 mile first service. Not sure if an update was applied and could have possible affected the turn signal sensors?

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

 Major brain-fart here...
I didn't think that the turnsignals were ever set up to cancel after a turn was completed.
I thought that the 20 second time-out; was the only factor that would shut them off (If the rider didn't intervene...)

Curious. ....

Have you noticed it the switch is hanging up. Some time ago there were some issues with the switch not returning to the center, at least on earlier models. otherwise not sure though led's do have some effect on the lighting in some cases....:dontknow:

I noticed that mine wont turn off on soft turns and mine will not time out. I did not know it even had that feature. Is that setting in the menu??

mine will turn off immediately after a hard turn and will timeout after a soft turn, unless i cancel them.

Cancelling Turn Signals

One of the great features about the RTL and one minor reason I bought., are the cancelling turn signals. Yes the hard turns, they cancel out, but the slight turns you have to cancel or wait for time out.

I had a service tech mention to me one time, when I was having issues on my 2013 RT, to let him know if it continued, so he could order the module to replace in the left handle bar. Some had caused problems, and this may be your case as well. I'd take it back in and have them check it out. Like others I don't suspect the LED addition would cause the problem.

As said, a shallow turn will not cancel the signal. The timeout is 30 seconds while moving above I think 3 mph or something close to that. I think the timer resets back to 30 seconds if you stop.

Look for a sticky turn signal switch. Does it return to the center when released? I shot some WD40 into mine 3 yrs ago and work well ever since.

If it won't cancel in one direction. Then the Steering Angle sensor is not set correctly and needs to be reset.

If it won't cancel in both directions. Not sure. If it was the Steering Angle Sensor it would show up in other systems.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I figured the LED's on the bumpskid didn't have an effect on the turn signals, but just wanted to put that in to rule it out.

The switch is returning freely to the center position without getting hung up or sticking at all. Now, obviously I can't see behind the switch, so it's possible the behind the scenes mechanics of the switch could be getting hung up.

The owners manual does say the turn signals will cancel themselves after a "normal" turn. If they do not cancel after the turn, its says they will time out after 30 seconds while the vehicle is moving.

I think I will give my dealer a call and have them check it to make sure the sensor is working and set properly. Then, I might shoot a little WD-40 in there to be extra sure the switch isn't sticking or getting hung up.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Alright, so I just left my dealer and all is fixed. This is a weird one... It turns out there was a wrong bulb installed in the tail from the factory! They checked over everything from front to back, couldn't find any problems, so they started manually pulling bulbs and checking them even though all the bulbs would light up. They ended up finding the rear tail section bulbs were different. After installing the correct bulb in both sides of the tail and resetting the turn signal cancel module... everything works great!

Sounds like you have a good dealer

I definitely do! Hollinger's Sports N Turf in Ephrate, PA. They are excellent to work/deal with! I have seen some of the horror stories on this forum about dealers and am very grateful the dealer I go to is trustworthy and all around awesome. Best part about the visit today, my bill was $0.00 when I left! (Plus the turn signals work properly again, ;))
