What is the function of the Rear signature light on an RTL? How does it turn on & off?

According to the manual, the white rectangular light in the back of the Spyder is a signature light. What is its function and how does it turn on and off? I have looked through the manual fairly thoroughly, I have used the search function on this forum, and I have searched YouTube with no results.

Reverse light?

It lights up when you put it in reverse. Like a car.

If it is, that light is in addition to the two backup lights on the saddlebags.

It should be a back up light, a leftover from earlier models.

Interesting. Perhaps it's called a signature light because it signifies that it's a particular model of a Spyder. I have seen signature lights for the front of Spyders and assume they come on with the headlights and other lights.

Here is the reason for my confusion. The illustration comes from the PDF manual.

I assume they refer to it as a signature light because, as I stated before, it's a left over from the previous RT models. They probably are calling it a "signature" light to hide the fact that they're recycling an old part on a new model.

I think the license plate light and "signature" back up light are one piece using standard incandescent bulbs, as used on the RT models since at least 2014, if not before. Whereas the new integrated LED tail light back up light assembly is new for the 2020 and newer RT models.

I think this is the correct lighting layout for a US model. At least it matches my 2024 RTL which does not have any backup lights on the saddle bags.

The illustration in the above post matches my trike. However, the PDF manual that I have does not show the same illustration for the American version of the RTL.
